I'm not a graphics whore thanks.
Chrono triggers story was even less detailed then XIIs and was so cliched (Even for the time it came out). Kidnapped Princess? Oh dear, where have I seen that before? Lets go to our distant apocalyptic future, oh noes, didn't see that one coming.
The majority of dialog was done by minor characters and in a far less grander scale then XII.
Tis not cool for the pot to call the kettle black. Specially when the pot is charred.

Now your just grasping at straws -_-.
The game is part of a compilation.
Not taking place in the same universe would be very bizarre.
Also XII copied Lord of the Rings+ Star Wars.
I didn't say it didn't have cliches .
Just not as many as chrono trigger.

Also you contradicted yourself several times in that post.
The same way you say that square payed of fimatsu for a 10 rating (dream on)
I can say they payed off the person who ranked it in the top 100 games list.
VI and chrono trigger were good the time they came out.
They rather suck now.

SIDE NOTE: I cannot fathom how disposed you were when playing XII to think it has a remotely similar battle system to Chrono trigger.

Game spot is full of crap on that one. RINOA, ZELL, and SQUALL FTW.
The most epicely useless character has to be Auron. At later part of the games he can't hold a candle to any of your other characters at the same sphere level.
unless you count the fact Auron doesn't require armour break for full damage on armoured opponents.

XII is starting to suck now, and it hasn't been 13 years yet.

I don't know why anyone would pay that much for. You can get a like new off half.com for $100, and CT for $70. A new Xenogears goes for $105 for GH, and $144 for black label.
Anyways, play Xenogears and you'll see why it's awesome, regardless of price.

I'm speaking about Aurons limit in particular. Not pointing out that khimari can do the exact same thing as auron with much more options.
Auron hits with his limit, tornado, once(Twice in euro version). TIdus hits 9 times, and wakka 12(at best with attack wheels). Lulu hits up to 8 times.
Yunas limit is a total waste of time in NA version because all aeon overdrives only hit once.(varies greatly in euro *yes euro version was better*).

Greetings,

It seems to me that most Final Fantasy Fans are divided into two general categories: +7s and -7s. Unquestionably, the series changed significantly during/after Final Fantasy 7. The debate is ever how about whether those changes were for the better or the worse.

My beef is simply this: When they reinvented the series, arguably at 7 or 8, they should also have renamed it. Now all thats really being argued is what the definition of Final Fantasy is and/or means, when really we are talking about two entirely different series of games which were developed by almost completely different teams of people. Of course the games are radically different, but because Squeenix is a business and wanted to cash in on the popularity of the title name, they included a number of token, "series staple" similarities.

Really, the differences between FF12 and FF4 are great enough that the games could easily be from different companies and comparable only as both existing in the RPG genre.

That being said, it is probably human nature that what is experienced first becomes the definition, and so for gamers who had a SNES (or bought one specifically for Final Fantasy...*cough cough*) the earlier iterations of the game are the definition. Then, if it so happens that the +7 games are not only unappealing but also a disappointment since certain expectations were left broken/unfullfilled, then begins the endless debate over which FF games were better.

I am of course a -7'er, to the point that FF7 doesn't even rank very high on my ever-changing internal list of "greats". The simple evidence being that I have played through 4,5, and 6 on average two times each over the last ten years, but I havent picked up FF7 since I beat it back in, um, '97 I think it was.

I can't stand the gameplay/characters/story of FF 8, 9, X, X-2, and honestly it is not just bias resulting from disappointment. Even if I pretend they are not games with the FF name, they still suck. I haven't had a chance to try 12 yet, but I did see it being played at a friends house, and I have to admit I am intriuged. Not because I want to play a FF game, of which IMHO and based on my definition of what an FF game is they dont make those anymore, but because it did look mildly interesting and I am close to beating Eschalon:Book I and even with a billion MODs (including FCOM) Oblivion is starting to wear out again.

Also, if you havent had enough, here is a link to a post I made about the specific FF games, a loooong time ago:

Final Fantasy VII? VIII? IX or X? which one do you think is the best?

I do think it is interesting how my opinion on 7 and 9 has soured over the years, like white wine going bad. Might have to boot them up again sometime to re-evaluate my opinion.

Sincerely,
TastEPlasma

EDIT: Oh yea, and Dead Fantasy is totally awesome, cant wait for the third and final part.

No, that isn't the case at all. The reason i say this is because anyone who speaks ill of pre 7 games obviously haven't played them, the same goes with post 7.

FF2, FF4, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9(i read the gameguide it looks good) FF10, and Tactics are all good games.

That's gotta be one of the smartest things I've read since the original helped teach me how to read!

Hmm, well, I can't agree with that, since I have in fact played FF 7, 8, 9 and X, including beating 7 and playing about 3/4 of the way through 9, and I while I did enjoy most of FF7, I find that I really don't like any of these games and they have no replay value for me.

I did say most are divided into +7/-7s, but my I feel that my argument that they are in fact two separate series stands, and as it turns out you happen to like both series.

As an aside, Final Fantasy Tactics is an awesome game. I wonder if making it an official, declared spin-off of the series influences my opinion. Hmm, I dont think so, as not only is the gameplay absolutely fantastic, but I think this game did a better job of integrating "FF staples" than did any game after 7.

Sincerely,
TastEPlasma

Maybe it's more a question of 2D vs. 3D as opposed to there being two sub-series within FF.

Not that I am a fan or anything...hell I have not even played the game, but what you have to remember is that this is a rather old and popular pot and as such has served as a template for a number of newer kettles, kettles which you may have encountered before making it easier to guess what shape of this pot might be.
