It also comes out in America, but for some stupid reason, Nintendo releases it as called Final Fantasy II. Sure, it was the second one released in America, but that's not what it is, and we can see the problems that can and did cause later. Final Fantasy V was released in Japan on the SNES but not in America. Final Fantasy VI was released in Japan on the SNES, and also in America, and again, Nintendo renames it Final Fantasy III in America. On a side note, it's so funny seeing some of the hardcore fans who prefer the classics say "only the first three were good" or "the series died after the first three" when they truly know so little of Final Fantasy because those weren't the first three. It got right afterwards. Final Fantasy VII then comes out for the Playstation in Japan, and on the Playstation it was done right, being called Final Fantasy VII in America as it really is, and the rest also followed suite proper. Later, the earlier Final Fantasy games were released again in bundles under their real names (Final Fantasy I/Final Fantasy II, Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI [notice the absence of Final Fantasy III until it's Nintendo DS remake]).

I wish they hadn't gone all childish with the series.

I have never been able to get into it...everybody wants greater control and freedom over their game but for me it's a turn-off. I start worrying about how I should be placing things and whether I am doing this or that right, not to mention the rules drive me nuts...luckily there are shark codes for that though. And it's annoying how all the areas would always come under attack...it's fine at first but towards the middle and end it gets rather annoying when being so far away that you lost the area despite trying to make a run for it...and then on your return trip you run into like 3 random clans and by then it's time for the next town to come under attack by another clan.

It's not good, but it's not bad...twice I have started now and twice I have gotten to the stage where the Jagds (lawless areas) start appearing and gotten over the game...although that was cuz I was training 101 characters at the same time to try and do all the missions.

Basically almost everything the game contains to make it unique and try and expand playing depth beyond the story...just ends up being rather annoying and a good reason to get over the game.

A classic case of innovation getting in the way of enjoyment. I think the 2nd one was toned down a bit.

A2 was an improvement alot of points, but There were several flaws.

1. The story got even less epic and shorter then before.
Not the least bit interesting.

2. It was way to easy to receive the strongest weapons in the game. Which personally ruined my fun, I felt like I was cheating.

3. Introducing Vaan and Penelo in the storyline was good. Completely removing them from any interaction in the story after you finish the side quest to get them in your clan was bad.

4. Omfg how long do you expect me to wait between turns, wtf are you loading stupid game. CRAP, why does this gunning moogle take 15 seconds to attack?!!!!

Sounds like the original tactics... the biggest flaw in FFT was the lack of character involvement after they join your team. But I guess it was a "big picture" story, and not about individual characters other than the Beoulves.

I remember in tactics advanced(when the game was neW) I was in jadg and montblanc died. That guy with the law breaking cards replaced him in the story with a whole new set of dialogue. Nono, Gerdy, and Herdy were probably in tears .
lol.

Theres a cheat to enable a hidden menu, you can use it to switch Aerith into the party... also works for Sephiroth and young cloud, as long as you don't have Vincent or Cait sith.

through you, and therefore this process very simple, but it seems to have been
taken out of the North American - and presumably PAL - release. So the moral of
this story is, practice practice practice, learn Japanese and import the game
so that you can cheat, or check out Morelock's Sidequests FAQ for an in-depth
strategy of how to win this race.

Same with everybody. I guess they wanted you to be able to get them killed permanently, but still... With some fancy dialogue scripting, SOMEthing interesting could have been done with them. I'll just have to blame laziness on their part.

That explains why it got messed up when I tried using the codes - I had both of them. I got Aeris to work fine though.

Phil, lots of those FFX minigames are a pain in the ass. I hope this is the only one that annoys you.

Whatever I had tried, it didn't work out properly. I can't remember the details.

I sympathize with anyone attempting the chocobo race in FFX. However, I would like to question the mental state of someone that dodges lightning 200 (so they say) times. Anyone feel like slaughtering a few Square Enix programmers?
