Can you connect a Ps2 to a PC monitor ?

Yes. My friend does that. He plays Ps2 and Xbox with his PC monitor. But i forgot the name of the adapter =(

Yes. But you probably don't want to (unless you have a crt monitor.)
You can use either a vga converter unit to convert video from composite or svideo to vga or dvi. Or you can get a video capture card for your PC and run the video through there and have your ps2 displayed on your windows desktop.

The problem, however, is that PS2 renders at a resolution of 640x480. When this gets stretched or upscaled to computer monitor resolutions (ie. 1280x1024 or 1680x1050) it will look very bad. It actually looks better on the old standard def TVs

I have a 21 crt monitor with two VGA's i could and a button to switch trought what do i want to watch thats why i was asking ty for your answers

so with the PS2 hoked up directlly to my monitor i would have normal quality no ? oh yes and i want to know if i can do the same thing with an xbox 360

If you hook the PS2 directly to the monitor it should be fine. CRTs have dynamic resolution so it should be able to display 640x480 natively. If you go through your PC, though, it'll stretch out unless you're running you're windows desktop at 640x480....and you shouldn't be.

It should be mentioned, though, that PS2 won't look any nicer on a CRT monitor.

Being a TV-Tuner user for PS2 playing on my CRT, this point should be emphasized. If like me however, it's not too bothersome since you can just play in a window and have your desktop visible.

Since you're on a CRT, you could probably lower your desktop res to 640x480, play PS2 full screen, then put your desktop res back when you're done. You can get away with that with CRT's since their resolution is dynamic.

If he's running it through his computer, no. The lowest resolution on Windows XP is 800 X 600.

Unless he has a small monitor, and I even doubt that'd be true, as XP requires an 800 X 600 monitor.

well that isnt a problem if i find the cable il connect it directlly on my crt monitor since i can connect 2 slots to it at the same time and i have a button on my monitor to chose witch screen to display (i mean to switch betwen ps2 and pc).

But my other question remains can i connect my pc 2.1 speakers or my headphones to my ps2 directly?

If you go to display settings -> advanced -> adapter there should be an option to list all modes.

If you adapted the L and R rca plugs from your PS2 connection to a female stereo plug. Trip to radio shack should take care of that.

i have another question today i searched in the hole damn city and i couldnt find a composite or s-video to vga, but i did find a RGB cable to VGA is that also good ?

I got a specific Redant PS2 to VGA adaptor. Well worth it, the quality is superb even on big LCDs. I think I got it from Amazon, but it's not there :P

You won't find one in a cable, svideo isn't directly translatable to vga. They're usually converter boxes, with the audio included. Last one I saw was around $100, you can probably find em cheaper now.

New Question i heard that with an external tunner you have the same quality and you can put it separatly and independant from pc to the monitor is it true ? will i have the same quality then ?

Also i want to know a cheap tv tunner to get to play ps2 on my computer i'm begining to think this is my only option

Lower the better, I find (so use DVD-R instead of DVD+R). Some have said it doesn't matter, others have said it does.
