Any emulators to play new Sonic the Hedgehog games?

I am just wondering if there are any emulators for the newer consoles which are able to play any of the newer sonic games. I am able to play Sonic Adventure 2 on Nulldc and I already have Sonic Heroes and Adventure DX on my pc but they they getting old already!

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, it's called the system that the game is for.

I dont want to buy the console for only one game as my kids only like sonic games so I thought of buying the game on ebay and getting it to work with an emulator. Is that possible?

Nop. There is no Ps3, Xbox 360 or Wii emulator to play the latest Sonic Games.

i dont keep track of those games anymore but if you are talking about gamecube or whatever then you wont be able to get much out of it, at least not yet. emulators for consoles like the gamecube require really souped up systems and most are unlikely to get playable framerates. not to mention more recent console emulators are considered works-in-progress and do not have high compatibility with games so its going to be awhile before enough progress is made to consider them useable . pcsx2 is coming along great but other console emulators need more time. as far as something like ps3 or wii goes, its going to be a long time before those get attention, and god knows what kind of system would be needed to pull something like that off.

Also, keep in mind that in order to legally play the game even if there was an emulator for it, you would still have to own the original system for it to be entirely legal.

A Gamecube is only $29.99 at Electronics Boutique used. If you want to play the Sonic game that badly, it's worth it.

I kept a bunch of my Gamecube games when I purchased a Wii, but I never tried the Sonic games for it other than the Sonic Mega Collection, which is just the first four Sonic the Hedgehog games.

That isn't strictly true in all cases.

Rather, what instances can you think of where you're legally allowed to use an emulator only if you own the original console? The only time that ever comes into play is when the emulator requires copyrighted firmware present in the original console, like a BIOS. Even then, it may not be technically legal (depending on country) to copy said BIOS, and most people don't do that anyway.

On the other hand, most emulators don't require a BIOS. Most consoles beyond a certain age don't even have BIOSes. Even if they do, it's possible to emulate it with high level emulation (see VGS, Bleem)

I was under the impression that even if the emulator didn't require bios, in order to legally use the emulator you still had to own the console.

Not sure why you were. Emulators are used commercially all the time without requiring the user to own the original console. You don't even have to be running copyrighted material on an emulator..

There were several Sonic games on GameBoy Advance, which are at least newer than Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, but they are 2D games of course. Sonic Advance 1,2,3 and Sonic Battle come to mind. You could play those in VisualBoy Advance.

Sonic Heroes was released after SA1 and 2 and was released for PC, so you don't need an emulator for that one. I think the first Sonic Riders was also ported to PC.

Yes, Sonic Riders is out for the PC, it was panned as a crap game, IIRC.

I have to reinstall Sonic Heroes, it was fun for $2.49.

There is Sonic DS and Sonic Adventure RPG on the DS if you are interested.

And Exophase is right. Emulators in themselves were strictly created for the purpose of running codes conforming to a different standard. It doesn't necessarily mean that the emulation of something is wrong or illegal, and it should not be in any case. Now if you use the emulator to execute codes which you don't hold the copyright of (or codes which you are not allowed to run under specific circumstances), then that's illegal.

But why would someone buy DS cartridges if they didn't own a DS?

If someone is too cheap to buy a $29 Gamecube to play Sonic, I doubt they're shelling out for the games either, but that's my opinion.

If we were talking $100+ I might understand having the game but not the system, except with a DS as you can't do squat with the cartridge if you don't own a DS.
