It doesnt matter how hard they try. They cant make the story of KOTOR work on a MMO. Its IMPOSSIBLE.

I want to really immerse my self in the story like i did with KOTOR1. I just cant do that with 12 year old asking me for money and items while a Jedi Master is talking to me.

Most gamers don't spend thousands of hours playing one game.

There are plenty of PC gamers who buy PC games, I'd like to see solid proof of how bad piracy on the PC is compared to consoles.

@ $14.95 a month, you'll pay more than a console game in 5 months, when it will be nearly $75 for 5 months.

I'll pay $30-$50 for a game, and no monthly fee, thank you.

Actually, some mmo's actually do work, if they stick to the true bioware method, which made NWN1 a killer game, they'll make it work.

**** mmo's.

they suck.

they'll destroy what made kotor fun (being a jedi in a non-restricted setting since it wasn't limited by the canon of the prequel or the original trilogy but having an actual STORY).

They've just made sure I won't play another kotor game and that was pretty close to my favorite game series.

I feel the same way, but there are too many Star Wars fans who will buy anything Star Wars.

Oh yeah, they butchered the story alright. Fans are just being immature and going "ZOMG SPACE PEW PEW" because of the way the story was worded, as soon as they saw "inter-dimension" (Draenor->Azeroth) they went "ZOMG SPACE PEW PEW PEW".

If anything, I'd blame Blizzard for copying this story on what they did previously (copying the story of the Draenei to the one of the orcs, who came from Draenor through the portal (teleporting them from Draenor to Azeroth)) and using it as a way to explain the coming of the Blood Elf at the same time, I wouldn't blame them for talking about stuff like space and ect tho. Otherwise, we may as well blame them for the story in previous games.
I'd blame them for lacking imagination in how they explained the coming of two new races (and tried to shoe them in) and instead kinda inspired their excuse from something they already did, not much else.
What really irks me is how Blizzard handled Illidan and Kel'Thuzad. They just boom, make them raid bosses and that's that. Blizzards way of saying there's no chance in hell for a Warcraft IV...which was a bad, bad move IMO. So many gamers out there that love the Warcraft lore just don't have time to level a character to see how Illidan and Arthas are supposed to die.

They better not start a Starcraft MMO until the story doesn't have an open ending.

as i said, theres nothing wrong with MMO's when

1. They have toolsets available for users to create content and run personal servers.
2. they aren't just about grinding for levels.

NWN was singleplayer by nature, but it was also playable in an mmo style multiplayer mode.

yeah, BULL****.

Developers and Producers always inflate the % to make it look worse then it really is. the correct rate is around 35%.

I would like to see unbiased statistical reports. Not press releases, which are bound to be biased.

And then we have the spin publishers make on piracy.

Yawn.

And I had fun doing that. NWN2 hasn't lived up to NWN, from what I've heard though.

Most games with an end last me at most 2 months; and that's if I'm busy. I can't remember playing much of anything for 5 months.

That's not entirely true. All that's needed is that it be multiplayer only. Being pay-to-play doesn't add piracy prevention.

So you would ask me to present a unicorn? You will never see such a thing you would have to somehow have a complete picture of the millions of computers that may or may not have pirated software. How in the world do you plan to keep track of all that data?

How is the The Yarr-ts: Piracy Snapshot link a press release, yo?

Ultimately, regardless of whether you buy the information (and granted, I believe all of what a company would say in terms of it as much as I would a pirate), if it is the perception of the developers/publishers that there is no market for PC games, the truth could be that there is 0% piracy and the truth would be irrelevant.

Not really sure how you can come to that conclusion when CoD 4 and the like with heavy multiplayer components happen to be some of the titles with purported issues selling on the PC. MMORPGs are fairly pirate-proof because private servers generally aren't going to be able to push nearly the quality experience that the official servers will, which is just the reason why MMOs invariably end up being the proverbial cash cow.

No. All I was asking was some government research into piracy and some hard statistical facts.

At least then it should be objective. We all know publishers add thier spin to things like piracy since its a easy scapegoat to place problems. What about publishers like Stardock that make money, while having non restrictive DRM or not at all?

I honestly believe the piracy spiel is gone on long enough. Piracy exists for next gen consoles, so the points are moot. It all comes down to game quality in my eyes: if a decent game is out at a decent price, people will buy it. Like with GalCiv2.

Sorry, I meant that the servers would be owned by the company. The main game that came to my mind was Diablo 2. Free to play, and no online piracy. Honestly though, I think the real cash cows are the good games. People will pay for those worth paying for.

You do realize some "piracy" is just people getting tired of and selling their games? Not everyone realizes that when they buy a second hand game that they can't necessarily play it online, or even at all. They are nailed as "pirates" even though the original owner is free to play off a backup CD with the key to the game, even though they should have given up all rights to the game when they sell it.

It happened to me with Half Life 2, except a kind soul gave me a legit key and thanks to him I can play it.

Until companies state on the box that the game cannot be transferred to another gamer, I don't think they should block resales of games. Tabula Rasa states the game cannot be transferred, that once you buy iy, you are the only gamer who can play it, which sucks because that means you have to buy multiple copies if you want to share the game with brothers/sisters or a roommate in your house/apartment, even on one computer.

I think gamers are losing rights thanks to the gaming industry and are getting turned off of PC games because of DRM. I know there are several 360/PC games I'll buy on the 360 because the PC versions have restricted DRM I don't agree with.

I buy PC games that are in production if I want them unless they have crappy DRM, then I'll buy the console ports if I have the chance.

Alright, so a bit of both then. We all know how bad things happen when a game doesn't live up to the hype the marketing creates.

But without marketing, nobody will know about the said game so they won't pirate it. There we go. Marketing creates piracy.
