FFTA was a plotless piece of crap and to be honest I haven't seen Squeenix delivering anything revolutionary since the days of FFT / FFVI. Evolutionary != Revolutionary.

Sure about that? I think I've read that it's basically the same game as FFTA with a bit more.

It doesn't need to be revolutionary. Don't fix something that isn't broken IMO. FFT was revolutionary, they just need to build on it. And it looks like this game could finally be that game. I'm holding my breath, yeah, but I'm a FFT nut

the plot was like, you get sucked into a book, now you have to join a guild and take on missions.

I could have made some serious coinage at one time as I have a Final Fantasy Tactics game and the guide book, the guy who was renting the game wanted to sell it as no one was renting it, so I purchased it.

I managed to get a number of Playstation RPGs that way, some obscure, some still expensive....

I never got into Final Fantasy Tactics though, maybe I should try it down the line?

What a lot of players failed to realize that it is not the traditional FF. A lot of people were expecting something like FFVII and FFVIII and then got turned off after a few minutes of gameplay. I think naming it a FF title backfired on Square at the time. I'm positive it would've done better if they gave it a decent title instead of just riding on the FF name.

I was expecting something like FFT, not a game based on a bunch on children.

Children per se isn't bad but Carmofin isn't exagerating...there was no plot whatsoever to FFTA. Only the gameplay remained and to a certain extent since you were restricted by race and gender.

FFTA was a bloody failure in my eyes. The gameplay is the only thing that saved its butt.

Gameplay may have been the only thing they had in mind when making it. Same kind of goes for FF12...

Define gameplay. To me gameplay also includes the general experience of the game, which involves the actual "levels" you go through and how they let the story unfold: highly polished cutscenes, nice background images with music and text, or just pupets and textboxes. It's more than just input -> output to me. At least I know I should skip out on that game and just get the PSP version of FFT War of Lions first.

I just watched some of the gameplay videos here, again I found it very typical of an esper being summoned, unleashing an all destroying attack that actually hardly did any damage at all. When will the Japanese move away from such rediculous clichés and start making something new? Or do they like playing the same thing hundreds of times over and over again?

Seriously, if there's one thing I'm looking forward to the most in RPGs, be it Japanese or Western, it's that these flashy attacks would actually do some visible damage and deform opponents and areas. Technically such stuff isn't even hard on current consoles, just slap on some different textures and deform the models. But still it's just a flame animation covering the opponent only to have it end up with some numbers over its head....

Yeah, Square is so revolutionary....

Lamers, :P

anything with the FF title is a good play, regardless of the gamestyle. (excluding FF12)
