Should I play oblivion?

I got about 1 hour in, reached the first gate - climbed the tower; done the crap

but the whole game so far has bored me to tears,
so I haven't played it again for around 4 months

is it really worth picking up?

because I'm deciding on whether to play this or VP2/RG on the ps2 instead

its alright but if you are not into or used to non-linear gameplay you will probably find it awkward since there isnt any real clue as to what needs to be done, its better than morrowind though imo. basically my point is that its hard to feel that sense of progress or that you are involved in something that isnt just a waste of time.

*snaps joncs neck and kicks him back to the bin*

Only thing oblivion does better is the graphics and the sword-bow hit thing that simply sucked in morrowind... Otherwise morrowind owns.

Oblivions world is static, boring, simple and there really isn't much fun things to do, except the Dark Brotherhood. The main quest is completely ruined by the "go to oblivion and shut the gate" thing that is repeated like bazillion times... Over hyped and over rated piece of complete **********!!!

And the voice acting... I don't think they more than 4 of the actual actors, and they all suck. Don't play it, you'll regret it later that you spent time from your life on that crap! I do...

well to be honest i didnt really like either of them. way too non-linear for my tastes. i suppose the reason i didnt like morrowind as much was because i played oblivion first, it sounds strange but sometimes if i play the newest game in a series or something like that first, its harder for me to get into the older or previous titles.

that's what I felt from it,
30 mins of exploring the pretty landscape and one oblivion gate.
I think that's all the game has to offer

I still play Oblivion until now :P, i like the free roaming thing, mebbe it depends to the player, in my case i like to imagine stuff while actually playing the game so it won't be boring (like being creative and stuff, like how i do drawings)
*prepares for bash* >.<

That is the question that bothers me too you know, I've started the game four times already, finished none and now I'm thinking of starting it again, this time on 360. Hah, perhaps it's high time to finish it

Why on earth would you get it on the 360 when the PC version pwns it thanks to all the bugfixing mods?

Then again I also got bored with it...I have over 80 hours of playtime in it but most of the was spent just screwing around with mods and testing performance tweaks.

cool

btw, the real reason I don't consider oblivion an rpg is because I cant stand it

I've played some of the crappiest rpgs all the way through because I love them so much

but oblivion just doesn't feel like a true rpg

its probably due to the non-linear gameplay. its hard to get a solid plot going (which is what most RPGs revolve around) with gameplay as non-linear as oblivion's, it feels like a bunch of sidequests thrown together with no real purpose. the non-linear thing can be done right sometimes but it has to be balanced and imo its not very balanced in oblivion.

Cause my only PC is my laptop, cause I don't like playing on a PC and cause I don't feel like spending money for buying PC for games as my laptop is sufficient for my needs

The Dark Brotherhood chain quests are pretty damn nice, and a whole game around that atmosphere would have been great (which is why I'm not entirely giving up on Fallout 3, the guy behind the DB is the one behind F3).(I'm not expecting the game to be a awesome Fallout, but it can still be a good game, overall, with a slight touch of Fallout on top of it. Approaching the game about being about "some guy in wastelands" instead of "FALLOUT3!!!" will be better, since the game seems to offer some pretty nice things, while being only somewhat true to the originals.)

Other than that... They are a few quests all over Oblivion world that are very good, but they're hidden in a sea of repetitive quests. So they'll surprise you with "Hey, that was a nice one" once in a while, but you'll get bored before you finish the game.

It's a fun game once you start getting involved in the major guild side quests (especially the thieves' and assassins' guilds).
