PSP h4cked for use with DualShock controller

Might we interest you in a PSP story ?

PSP hacked for use with DualShock controller - Engadget

It's not the first time we've seen a controller hacked for use with the PSP, but this mod by Acidmods member Blizzrad takes things a bit further than most, with it relying entirely on hardware modifications in order to work, meaning it can be done on any PSP regardless of the firmware. It's also one of the cleanest-looking mods we've seen to date, with the only evidence of tampering on the PSP itself being a discreetly placed controller connector right above the power switch. Of course, that also means it's considerably more difficult for most of us to do ourselves, but we can at least get a glimpse of what's possible courtesy of the video after the break.

Thats pretty cool. I've used a PSP before, and never liked the controls. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of Playstation controllers either, but this could probably be adapted to other controllers.

Having a controller that's larger than the psp seems a little ridiculous. Is the psp's gamepad that bad?

Now that'll prevent your hands from cramping up whenever having to need that bloody analog thumbpad. Now all he has to do is hook his PSP up to a monitor or tv

I think it's more about playing your own PS games that you dumped yourself on the PSP. Since the PSP doesn't have L2, R2, L3, R3, and the second analog stick, this would be ideal for that. Some original PS games require those buttons to play but the PSP does not have them.

The PSP actually does have a R2 and L2 to use, but it's that pathetic thing of what they call an "analog stick" under the D-pad. Left is L2, right is R2 and up in both.

Sometimes you have in PSP games certain situations which require extrem precice controls...and psp standard controls can't give u that. So would loove to have such a thing!

Ummm, read through it again. It's a custom mod someones done by themselves. I doubt there's actually a kit that walks you through it step by step yet.

I had made my own mod but only for left analog. That mod was hillarious. So damn cool. For those who interested to try it out this is the wiring diagram:

For FPS'es? Yesh. It's quite hard to look and aim really fast in FPS games with the current PSP layout, and it just so happens that the PSP gets some good FPS games.

Yeah. Why not simply use a PS2/PS3? knowing that most games are cross-platform between the two machines? Really, for a machine which is portable...

It's a mod. Meaning it's not a standard thing you can just buy off the shelves. Apparently you didn't notice that If you want that, you're going to have to bust open your PSP and fiddle around with things.

Well, you got me there...but it's quite easy to miss sarcasm and irony on forums such as this

Anyways, the guy probably has a small explanation or guide posted up in their boards somewhere. I'd snoop around myself but I just got home from a 14hour day and just want to kick back.

Well I used to complain about the controls on the psp phat before, but as I got a psp slim I can play fighting games way better than before.

The directional buttons on the psp phat were really bad for fighting games.
