So i recently went out and bought Beautiful Katamari and Armored Core 4 for Xbox 360. I got my first ever rrod (red ring of death) on my 360 while playing Katamari, and I got two more today while playing Armored Core 4. My family has had the console since last Christmas, 2006, and was wondering what we should do. I will be headed off to college in the fall, so the problem really won't concern me for much longer....but if possible i'd like to do something about this broken 360 before heading off because otherwise it will never get fixed ![]() We got the Nyko Intercooler, and have been using that with the console since we got it a little over a year ago. I've read that using that device voids the warranty of the 360 since it's and "unlicensed add-on", and that the Intercooler actually causes more rrod cases than it prevents. What should I do?

Check to see if the power supply isn't crapping out on you. The first time my 360 RROD'd was because of the faulty hardware internals. The second (2 weeks ago) was the power supply not functioning properly. If not the power supply make sure that the intercooler didn't melt to the 360. If it didn't, I can't imagine any other way of the service centre people proving that an unlicensed add-on was prevalent. If there is not visible damage caused by the intercooler, ring up microsoft and get them to repair it (I don't think it should cost anything). |

raise it from the ground and make sure it has some breathing room, then play for a while and see if you still get rrod personally, after my 360 broke I just vowed not to buy one untill microsoft builds a bombproof level of reliability on the 360 |

This whole business of the RROD really is irritating...it reminded me why I will always have a PC to game on. With the 360, your fate is in the hands of some repair center half way across the country. At least with PCs there is always the possibility of troubleshooting a hardware problem to a specific part...so replacing the one part will fix the issue while with a console you have to replace the whole damn thing ![]() I really wanted to buy one to bring with me to college too...Soul Calibur IV, Ninja Gaiden II, sigh

I understand the pain of rrod ![]() after I got rid of my 360 I bought the 360 pad for windows, it's incredible as you know and plays all the ports without configuring like bioshock or grid which is nice

Yeah i got a wired 360 pad to use with my comp...so far it's only been used with Geometry Wars on steam ![]() I still prefer the mouse and keyboard in FPS games....maybe the pad will get some use when Mass Effect comes out for PC ![]() Also I've read up on different chipset generations for the 360. They had the first generation, which had a lot of issues, RROD, loud, hot, etc. Then they released the "Falcon" chipset which used some 65nm tech as opposed to 90nm, and so cut back on the noise, heat, failures. Next they have something called "Jasper" coming out later this year...which is an improvement on the "Falcon" systems. Finally, "Valhalla" will be released in late 2009 which supposedly combines the GPU and CPU onto one 65nm die. source, Xbox 360 technical problems - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Report: Xbox 360 Jasper chipset contracted for production, Valhalla on deck - Joystiq i'll probably try and get a "Jasper" console...no way am I waiting until 2009 for NG II, and SC IV ![]() edit: i cleaned some dust off that was clogging the ventilation holes on the PSU brick, and removed the nyko cooler. The console worked for a few hours before I had to go do other stuff, but no RROD. I'm going to keep playing and see if the console is really fixed...
