Microsoft's turn to get snippy. Sony Has Failed to Deliver on Promises.
Microsoft: Sony Has Failed to Deliver on Promises
Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg says “the days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over,” that the company has failed to deliver on numerous promises, and challenges Sony’s latest European PS3 sales figures. “We have been fighting Sony's promises from the day we entered the market,” Greenberg told Destructoid. “Three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out the door. “Think back to GDC 2007 when Sony promised to leap ahead in online with the Sony Home unveil. Here we are two years later and multiple delays for a product that appears to have little to no buzz. Where are the achievements? The friends list integration across all games? Where is the long-promised video store? Where are all the other products using and networking with their CELL chip? How come Blu-ray did not result in better games? What happened with Sixaxis and rumble? Where is the complete 1080p game library we were promised? If Blu-ray as they said would be such a catalyst to PS3 console sales, then why have PS3 sales over the past couple of months not seen any lift since the format victory?” According to Greenberg, “Xbox 360 is leading this generation” with a greater installed base, more than double the software library, the most exclusives and the leading online service and community. He said that Microsoft has more up its sleeve to reveal later this year and that he’s confident Xbox 360 will extend its lead over PS3 during 2008. Greenberg said Microsoft’s Xbox 360 currently commands a five million unit lead over PS3 on a global basis, has double the installed base in the US, based on NPD data, and over a one million unit lead across Europe, based on figures from ChartTrack and GfK. In contrast, earlier this week Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves said that PS3 sales had surpassed those of Xbox 360 in Europe. ---

He is right when saying X360 is the leading platform, but for what games? Multiplatform shooting and racing fodder. This doesn't mean much when you are trying to win over consumers who want to play MGS4, GT5 and Final Fantasy and prefer not to have a hot headed, noisy, RROD'ing disc scratching console in their house. Sony has failed to live up, once again, and Microsoft has rushed their product giving it its own share of problems.

Sony has always failed to deliver on their promise, they have always hyped a console a LOT before it's released.
The difference is that they know people will forget about it sooner or later because of the games coming to the console. But then, MS wasn't exactly keeping it's promise either. HEY GUYZ, WHERE'S MA BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY!? And Sony sales are lower than MS in Europe, but the difference in sales in Europe is smaller than the difference in Sales in Japan... Even tho very small. (I would have expected Japan to be more supportive of Sony...) Anyway, MS shouldn't point the finger at Sony while they're not doing that much better... It's just a way to ensure that they WILL be ridiculed once Killzone 2 and Home gets released, eventually. And once the PS3 sales kick the 360 sales. (in the coming years) Even tho Sony never was one to keep up promises very well, it never really stopped them from doing great.

To be fair, PS3 has sold more than the 360 for the amount of time it's been out.

Meh. I'm sure we'll see a small spike in sales for the PS3 when FFXIII comes around also. Still plenty of upcoming games for the PS3 that can keep its sales alive.

Perhaps so, but that doesn't change the fact that the 360 is the leading platform, and PS3 gets ports from games that run on a 360 type of CPU GPU combination, not the other way around.

I have to say so far it is a big victory for MS, PS2 had a huge lead, and suddenly MS is second, and sony is last.
I think sony made one big mistake with PS3 they made it too powerfull and complicated. Before developers can use its full power MS might have its XBOX 660 out, and given the speed hardware improves these days it will without doubt be a faster machine than the PS3.

i think its merely a case of the game developers appealing to the lowest common denominator in terms of system specs in order to more easily cross platform and rake in the bucks. i mean to them the dvd format is probably big enough and the processing power of the 360 probably makes games look good enough to justify releasing the majority of their games for both platforms.

You do have a good point there! But it would never have happend like that if MS didn't get a head start and sold a lot of consoles, the delay was really a big hit to Sony and the price too, had they built a less advance machine, and launhed it earlier, MS would never have such a leap, and it wouldn't force the developers to go multi-platform. Now MS already has the victory since the 360 install base is so big fewer and fewer will considered to make a game only for the PS3 and lose more than half of their target audiance, for a platform that is MORE expensive to develop for. On top of that the multi-platform ones is selling more for the 360. Like 60-40 in favor for it.
On top of that the graphics cards are more or less equal, I think sony predicted that the extra processing power would be use for a lot of cool stuff in games, like advancements in AI, and physics. But so far we haven't seen any big leap in it on the PS3, might be they were out too early. The xbox 660 might have a physics card, which would produce better physics than the ps3 without any cost to the games performance. Future will tell though. Maybe the PS3 will stand really strong 2 years later. You never ever know in this market!!
