Question Getting a 360 Need advice

Hey guys.

I previously owned a 360 premium but was forced to sell it when I became unemployed.

Well I am now in a position to buy another but I can't decide which to get.

The premium one is really low priced right now but only has a 20gb HDD. The Elite has a 120gb HDD and is black (looks way nicer imo)

The only thing is there is a 100 euro difference in price. Is the extra HDD space really needed? (I only plan on using the HDD for downloadable game content and maybe the odd demo).

That's really the thing I can't decide on. If the Elite is that much better than the premium I have no problem shelling out the extra 100. I just need some feedback to help me decide.

Thanks.

Perhaps a little research will answer your question. Determine how much space is required for the DLC you're currently interested in (FYI, the 20GB drive has ~14GB of usable space) and decide if the 20 is sufficient.

There's always the option of replacing the HD with a larger one down the road, but that would be more expensive than buying the Elite now.

Yeah but if all his friends own Xbox, then he will want that as well as they can all play online, if you get my meaning

To be honest I owned both the PS3 And 360 and you just can't put the PS3 anywhere near the 360. The 360 is so established now and has such an array of amazing games (that are cheap too), compared to the PS3's terrible selection.

Any whoo I don't want this to turn into a console debate

I would get the standard pro console. 20GB is plenty unless you play on downloading a bunch of movies. (Btw, Its now possible to play divx and other format videos off of external harddisks now )

The answer depends on what 360 model have you own now I myself owned the Elite model and 60GB PS3 and wondered at that time how MS could put such a tiny HDD like 20GB into their console

I'm more into Wii now, though

I currently don't own one. The one I had was a 20gb version.

I doubt downloadable content takes up that much space does it?

That is all that will be on the HDD along with gamesaves

I have the 20gig and am down to about 3 gig left, because of a bunch of demos I don't play. If you just want it for save games, dl content and the occasional demo then it should be find--definetly not worth 100 extra euro if you ask me.

Get the 20GB model, even after downloading several demos and trailers I've still got gigs of space left. The Elite isn't needed imo.

Very true, I've never ran into space problems by downloading from the arcade or lots of demos. The larger hdd would help you with the video service, but that is about it.

Normally I wouldn't hijack someone's thread with my console preference but seeing as how you said all that I will refute it.

I also owned both the 360 and PS3. I still have my PS3. My 360 is sold. Yes, the 360 has a large amount of games. They're all the same and 99% of them suck a lot. Most of them are cash grabs by developers who obviously don't care about product quality or content. There's only so many mindless shooters I can stomach. Besides, I have a PC for shooters. That said, the 360 is frigging LOUD, the product quality is atrocious (lol RROD), there's no standard HD medium drive, the media capabilities are lackluster, it's not an open platform like the PS3, you have to pay for the online play, there's next to nothing in the way of jpn content, the games don't cache to HD, the HD is proprietary and expensive, they only just now made HDMI standard and that was only in retaliation to PS3.

My PS3, on the other hand, while not having (yet) as large a library as the 360 already has more quality games that I liked much more. It's near-silent, quiter than my Wii. Product quality is way better. BluRay is win. While it won't play x264 mkvs (to be expected) it will play HD DivX's, Xvid's and Mp4s. I don't need special software to stream media to it from my PC. My PS3 becomes a media gateway to my PC for my PSP....so I can access all the music and movies on my computer from my PSP if I have a WiFi connection. PSN is free. I can install linux on my PS3 without having to hack it. There are way more JPN games for PS3. Games installing to HD is WIN. Keyboard and mouse support for FPSs is win.

Choice was obvious for me.

I could argue all day about this but, Gears of War, Halo 3, Crackdown... I disagree with the all the same remark.

Loudness I agree with fully. The 360 is like a mini helicopter when it runs.

As for Linux, It is so slow right now it really isn't worth bothering with. I was stuck using it whilst I was PC-Less and It wasn't a pleasant experience. (In comparison to PC Linux). Again no offence intended, just my opinion.

Anyway, I am not saying the PS3 sucks or anything. All I am saying is that out of the two consoles I prefer the Xbox 360. I am not a fanboy, and have owned these consoles to date (to show my non-fanboyism)

Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nes, Snes, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast.

Everyone has there own tastes in consoles and games I guess.

(Actually looking at that list I look like a Nintendo Fanboy )

What great games does the PS3 boast at the moment?

All shooters? Yes.

I cannot be bothered to go though listings to post all the other great games the 360 has in all genres.

Les just agree to disagree shall we?

There is a lot of junk, but there's also good stuff like Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Crackdown...etc as well as upcoming games like Tales of Vesperia and good XBLA titles like Rez and Ikaruga. Can't argue with the price of Xbox Live, I think it should be free.

And yeah, the DVD drive is stupidly loud, I wish they'd get that sorted out.
