Mame games run slow because of my sound?

Playing games like MK3, MK2, UM3, etc the game framerate is terrible slow, i was thinking it was because my CPU is only pIII 600MHZ, but when i disable sound, the game runs over 60fps at near perfect speed.

Any advice on how to get around this?

I am using my integrated sound board, which has no hardware features, but i also have a PCI SoundBlaster Card in my Tower, which i can use with EAX 2.0 features and it hardware features, but that doesn't solve the problem.

I turn off hardware accelerated in dxdiag and that still doesn't solve the problem.

The sound emulation of the game requires a more powerful PC, you could get an earlier version of MAME, although you might need to then look for matching ROMs, or you'll have to disable sound.

IIRC the same soundboard is used in several pinball games...
