There is always a discrepancy between users and reviewers. Don't forget that there are always the "haters" for every game/genre that even though they have not, and will never, lay hand on one game, they will rate it as low as possible. Usually (not always), user ratings are lower than reviewers, which stands true for Mario, Zelda and to a lesser extent Final Fantasy mainstream games, but surprisingly enough is the opposite for Sonic games (couldn't resist ).

Most games experience a "review peak" when released which laters subsides. When Galaxy was released, and until 20 reviews were in, it was almost half-percent above OOC. GTAIV is currently 1,2% above with 20 reviews and we shouldn't be surprised if it becomes the best reviewed game, but I still want to see what the reviewers who were not handed a copy one month ago (and possibly some money) have to say. There is no f***ing way this game will appeal to everyone.

Just because he barks and yells against the game does not mean he is not into it... The people who complain the most about something "bad" are usually the ones who like it the most...

You know what i'm just ignoring all of this, not just with jack, but with the media too. Everyone is just whining about it, but yet there are other games on the market that are violent too, don't forget tv, don't forget the whole freakin internet not in violent, but sex things, etc etc.

The bottom line, STHU, teach your kids right from wrong, boom slam jam, everything is cool as pie.

Midnight GTAIV sales see stabbing, mugging
Police say one man apparently waiting in line attacked a passerby, while a teenager elsewhere was beaten up for his copy of the game.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot

Midnight launches aren't always the gaming industry's proudest moments. The PlayStation 3 release in particular was riddled with launch-related crimes, including a mugging, a store robbery, a launch line hold-up, and a shooting.

Grand Theft Auto IV went on sale in stores around the world at 12:01 a.m. this morning, and already reports of criminal midnight launch madness are starting to filter in. BBC News is reporting on a pair of incidents, with news of a stabbing outside a Gamestation in Croydon and a mugging by another game store in Lancashire.

According to the news service, a 23-year-old man was attacked by a knife-wielding assailant as he passed a line outside the Gamestation. The victim was treated for several stab wounds and has since been released. The attacker, who police said appeared to be waiting in the line of about 50 to 100 people, was not apprehended.

In the mugging, an 18-year-old was robbed of his copy of the game and beaten as he walked home from the store with a friend. The victim was taken to the hospital with a broken jaw and a broken nose.

Police are asking for witnesses in both cases to step forward.

That's it. Now I'm really p*ssed off.
Thompson attacks the Boy Scouts in that Planet-Half life article:

Quote:
Your son, this very moment, is doing everything he possibly can to sell as many copies of GTA IV to teen boys in the United States, a country in which your son claims you raised him to be "a Boy Scout." More like the Hitler Youth, I would say.
As if attacking GTA was enough, he insinuates that the Boy Scouts are basically Nazis?

I've had enough of Jack Thompson. No amount of text can properly describe my anger about him and his stupid shenanigans. So i'll stop here.

Unfortunately he is till in his 50's....Which means he'll be around for quite a while, wreaking more havok upon the US; and quite possibly the rest of the world if he gets his way.

thompson and people like him feel threatened by things they have little to no understanding of. they fear it because they feel that the depiction of an ideal society portrayed will overrule and replace their depiction of ideal society. this revolves around the whole thing with protecting teh children because they know that teh children will shape the future and if something they dont undertand, like GTA, is able to change their attitude then the future society itself will be molded around that attitude, this is why i think he and others try to act like the game is some sort of virus that will sicken anyone that gets near it which is nothing but a load of technophobic bs.

edit- case in point.

JT is right on the cusp of gaining huge momentum in his efforts to remove GTA franchise from north america. All he has to do is show this video on The View or Oprah, and Take Two and Rockstar's GTA franchise as we know it is ****ed.

While we are at it why not ban all R/17+ rated movies from theatres since 16 year old sometimes manage to get tickets or sneak in.

LOLOL, Godwin's Law.

common sense would say the stabbing incident was an opportunistic mugging (people milling about with 50 quid in their pockets?). Meh, I suppose facts get in the way of a good old moral panic.

yep, remember the iphone muggings or *insert coveted item here* muggings a few years back?

this time it happened to be a violent video game that's the hot topic - undeservingly sharing the blame
