Sadness to feature effects deemed impossible on Wii
Emergent Game Technologies have today announced that the much discussed Wii horror title, Sadness, is being built on the Gamebryo game development platform.
Sadness is the first Wii title to be presented entirely in black-and-white and is in development by Poland-based game studio Nibris. The game is set prior to World War I and is described as a crime noir thriller with richly detailed characters and an engaging storyline. Sandness will see players confronting their greatest fears and protect themselves in hope of not getting trapped inside the main character's nightmare. The game will feature eight different endings which will play out depending on the player's actions. Making full use of the Wii, the game will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to move the character's hands. "Without a doubt, Gamebryo is the most powerful engine available for the Wii. After getting familiar with the engine several months ago we made the decision to choose Gamebryo. Since then, our team has been working on Sadness and we are quite impressed," said Tomasz Wisniowski, Project Manager of Nibris. "We will have quite a few graphical effects in our game, which some believe are impossible to attain on the Wii. Gamebryo helped make it possible. We are firmly convinced we made the right choice." "Sadness is designed to push the bounds of Wii technically and creatively," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "We are thrilled to be a part of Nibris' ground-breaking product. We're really looking forward to playing Sadness on Wii." Thought so.
European developers always seem to be quite talented. With the Wii not supporting shaders, this will be interesting.

I'd register to see what they talk about but Neogaf doesn't accept free emails...
Anyway, the link says "DS Horror" and talk about "Highschool blablabla" which seems to have nothing to do with the Wii title. Otherwise, that Sadness title has been under my radar for a long time, I just wish they released more screenshots/Videos. They've shown some but more would be fun.

"deemed impossible on Wii," eh? Kind of like playing Doom 3 on SLI'ed Voodoo2s was it?

From what the guy said, he gave that arts to Nibris as a example of what he could do, to explain what he saw could make for a good atmosphere for a NDS game.
They weren't supposed to release that art (Nibris or Cubed3) but the guy doesn't seem to be taking it bad. "Overall, nothing bad happened, I'll try to straighten out some people." It could all be explained with a big misunderstanding, example : Some guy at Nibris look back to various artworks for the game some time later, see those pictures, think that those are actually pictures of the game and not just a example of the portfolio of the guy who makes the artwork. He's asked to show artworks of the NDS game, think those pictures are actual artwork of the game, show them. Big **** happen because of a mistake. Or if Nibris just though that those pictures came with the rest after hiring the guy and thought they could use those pictures. On top of that, they said they fired the guy who was responsible of the whole fiasco. So even if it was done on purpose by someone, that person is not part of the studio anymore. That doesn't look good for Nibris, but who cares, mistakes happen and if it was done on purpose by someone trying to steal the arts, that person is gone now. If Nibris doesn't intend to release a game (or a good one), we'll know about it eventually anyway. But right now it just look like something bad/misunderstanding happened and has been long gone. (and I managed to see the thread, which was basically 30% people shouting fake before knowing anything, 30% people making pictures to laugh at the situation without taking into account anything, 30% people just repeating various meme, and a small 10% actually trying to know what was happening and see the end of that story) They hired the guy (artist), a weird situation happened over the arts he sent them as "demo" of his skills/vision-only. Nibris fired the guy who was at the root of all this. No need to make such a big deal out of this. Just wait and see, if Nibris falls apart we'll know soon enough.

Woah woah woah woah. Woah.
Woah. Hold on. You mean to tell me Sadness isn't vaporware? Oh man, this is the best news I've heard in ages. Ever since seeing the first trailer I've been excited for this game's release. This is going to be awesome. Here I was thinking I had false hopes because it kind of had all the hallmarks of vaporware. |

Well, the studio behind this has released a video for another game before, so the studio worked on at least one game. I think they released more stuff for other games too, and seems to have given the development of two of their games to another studio to focus on less games at the same time.
But as for Sadness... We still don't know much. Basically, they released many artworks, I think I saw a few screenshots too. And I remember one techdemo showing a FPS view walking around a room and interacting with stuff (physics) but that could have been a fake video being made by someone else and passing it as a Sadness tech demo, easily, so I'm not taking it very seriously. But anyway, Nibris released screenshots/videos of other games they're working on, so it's not that hard to believe that Sadness is a existing game. If they work on NDS/Wiiware games, they may very well be working on a full-Wii game. They got a game with Zombies! On a mothaducking plane! ![]() (that's a WiiWare game, not a full-fledged one) Of course all of what they say/show could be entirely fake. But that'd be a lot of troubles for... Nothing? Dunno, creating false pictures/videos and faking various studios/publishers would be a lot of trouble.

I'm not keeping my hopes up, I'm just curious. They've shown screens and videos for others games, so I'm waiting for them to show more of Sadness. One screen is fine, but we still want more.
I'm just not gonna jump the gun based on one bad thing that happened, that even the "victim" doesn't seem to think of as being a big deal. And hell, they even announced the game to be released on the same day as Duke Nukem Forever. (which was getting lonely ever since Stalker actually got released...)
