Sony ask why you "hack" your PSP

as here Survey for Dark AleX, et al: Sony asks PSP hackers about their motivation - PS3 News, Wii News, Xbox 360 News, PSP News and more!

this is ridiculous. Im all for sony seeing what users want from their PSP to adapt their firmware to support it or meet at a "middle ground", but that survey is down right biased to hell. The questions arent even put neutrally, its like "why do you break the law? do you feel cool breaking the law" its like, wtf!

Whats hard to grasp? users want freedom to run their own software on it and play homebrew games and run homebrew apps, n of course the ability to run their games without needing the UMD cos its quicker. They dont like the restrictive feel those corporate asshats put on the console, but this isnt even an attempt to comprimise from what i see, it seems more an attempt to expose people for doing things they shouldnt be and make the homebrew community look even worse than it already does.

Thoughts?

If they can't even understand their own costumers needs, what is more to say really? But there are way too many companies with the same problem in my opinion. They feel threatened by giving more freedom to their customers, and no one understand that freedom is what the market lacks and it can be beneficial for them also (they see only the negatives, aka piracy which is wrong, things like that can also boost sales). For example i would like to put a different firmware in my 6G ipod and use applications that Apple doesn't provide at the moment. But i can't, since the firmware is encrypted. See the music industry and how late it discovered that people want to download songs for the practicality and the fact you can choose the song you want and not a whole album that you don't care that much, without restrictions like drm for something they bought.

I'd like to be able to use the PSP for what it's supposed to be, a handheld media console. And why should I pay to play a PS1 game on it if I already own the damn game?!

I think this survey just shows that Sony's finally bowing down to CFW and homebrew PSP developers. The bastards are getting scared.

I know there's quite a few retards at Sony who couldn't care less about bad PR, Bleem, Lik Sang, DRM cases and their overall arrogance are all proof of it, but the results of a survey like this aren't even going to give them any knowledge they can actually use to improve either their product or their marketing strategy.

Unless I see proof by this poll being on an official Sony site, I call it BS.

Oh, and btw, hacking my PSP isn't illegal, since it's my property. Don't let corporations blind you with their statements they want the average consumer to believe.

only reason i would buy a psp is so that i can put homebrew stuff on it.
i havn't seen any good PSP games out. so i only see the PSP being useful as a small portable computer/media player.
so if i can't put custom apps on it, i'm not going to buy that ****.

and that survey is so biased and crappy, is that even real?

i just hate when a corporation limits our freedom. we buy the system, let us do what we want with it you corporate ****ers. you already take enough of our money as is, don't take our freedom away as well.

I got it just for the PS1 gameplay mainly . Already have a Palm that can play movies for me and store pics, and I've got 3 portable MP3 players too...

Hell, even cellphones nowadays come with MP3 playback and can play movies as well...

Yeah both I and Charline want to buy PSPs and mod the heck out of them to play Playstation games we own, and some older emulated games we own. Why should it be a crime to play Atari 2600 games on a PSP? or Gameboy, or anything else where I own the media? Why try and tell us what we can and cannot do with equipment we purchase?

If I purchase something, it should be mine to do as I see fit, if they want to void the warranty, fine, but that's my right.

Portable C64, Atari 2600, NES, Super NES, Apple 2E, Sega Genesis, Playstation, OOOOH! I'd spend $170 for that!

I'd even buy some PSP games that were sold by Sony. I just want homebrew as well...

Damn you Sony!

That's exactly what I was going to say until I saw your post and decided to just quote you instead of writing the same thing. For me, I had a choice to buy a GP2X or a PSP. I really wanted a PSP, but I decided to get a GP2X soley for the reason of having freedom with it. I wasn't looking foward to voiding the warranty if I bought a PSP and had to mess with the firmware or bricking the unit and whatnot, so that's why I went the GP2X route. Game Park knows what it's customers want, which is a shame because not many people know about the GP2X, which is a great little machine.

Where's the option in the survey that says, "I like to use my PSP to its fullest potential instead of using a small percentage of its capabilities"? That survey sucks, must be a fake. They should have an open forum for PSP owners to explain their reason to hacking their PSP and then Sony would really know what their customer's really want instead of making a BS survey that only makes the PSP user look like a thrill seeking criminal.

Good point, but being able to legally run emulators on it without having to risk the life of the PSP would definitely attract a broader customer range who isn't the casual gamer that doesn't goe out and buys modern games. Some people only like the older stuff, and having a handheld that allows emulators to be put on it is good enough for those people and would attract their business.

to add on to that,
old games still look good on a small screen like the PSP.
playing on my 40" monitor makes anything thats not high-definition look bad.
so thats why playing them on the PSP would be better. plus its also portable. :O

btw,
is hacking your PSP illegal?
or is that just what sony wants you to think?

cuz i don't think mod-chips are illegal, its just the act of pirating games thats illegal.
