Post Early Spring Clean

As part of an ongoing cleanup of NGEmu and Emuforums, I have just completed the task of unsubscribing all users from all threads old than 1 days - by hand. I sincerely apologise if this causes any bother to anyone, but we have a good reason It appears there were hundreds, if not thousands of emails being returned to NGEmu stating that email accounts no longer existed etc. This caused some strain on the server, and contributed (just a little) to any slowdown we have been getting recently. Now, with this main problems of slowdown fixed (big thanks to _Demo_ ), and the thread subscriptions problems gone, I am now going to start looking at Bobbi's scripts. It seems that, depsite their ub3r 1337ness, that they aren't as efficient as could be. Now, I am notorious for writing shabby PHP myself , but I am going to try my best at closing some open connection and the sorts.

There are still lots of other things to be done at NGEmu, but keeping it smoothly seems to be our prioirty ATM A nice download script is something I have want for many months, so I might look into that too Any good PHPers out there ? Drop me a line

Well, if I, or any other member does anything, just post here :P Cya.

Dropping people who should have been unsubscribing in the first place is a good idea. Too bad for all those who will have to resubscribe now, but hopefully the gains more than outweigh the hassle.

Just one point - it might better to change the subscription default to off. Might help ease the situation in the future. (users who want it can always switch in back on anyways).

Re: Early Spring Clean

I prefer subsription to be off otherwise I'll be getting just TOO many Emails. Good to know my choice helps NGemu as well somewhat.....

Re: Early Spring Clean

I have a comment. You should allow us to change our e mails to hotmail and yahoo accounts. Why cant we use the "free" ones anyways? Like why cant I change mine to my hotmail account that I use all the time?

Re: Early Spring Clean

Erm guys look @ the date of this thread. September 2002.

Razor Blade: Those email services were blocked because too many banned lamers were using them to register (one in particular reregistered about 10 times before we blocked those sites).
