First bunch of changes

As already announced some time ago, we're currently going through several changes here at Emuforums. In order to reach our goal of getting the board back to a nice and fun place to chat, we've already taken several steps which will make it easier for us to control the board, and more fun for others to post here. Below is a list of changes done so far :
  • Finally fixed that small icon on the error pages Never really noticed that one as admins rarely see any forbidden/error messages.
  • Killed the test/spam forums
  • Renamed off-topic to open discussion
  • Fixed the quick reply box, people having automaticly suscription on will now suscribe to the thread through quick reply as well.
  • Added a temporary ban script to the forum, which allows us to ban users which don't follow the rules for a certain amount of time (and two users already could test out how well that one works )
  • Renamed site feedback to "Site feedback and questions", showing that questions about the site and the forum should go there as well.
  • Slightly changed the description of the off-topic forum
  • Renamed Plugin troubleshooting to plugin questions and troubleshooting
  • New stars, thanks a lot to Keith for these
  • Created ePSXe discussion -> "Problems with games" and moved posts in. Makes it a lot easier to browse the ePSXe boards from now on.
  • Added the possibility to attach files (same type and size as to posts) to attachments now - great to directly send something to another member without using e-mail ! Attention though, we're monitoring any larger file transfers and also blocked certain files (and yes, we search through zipped archives) already, so sending around illegal stuff here will get you into problems quickly.
  • Added a "edited because" hack, which means that you can now specify why you edited your post (see end of this post for an example)
  • Merged bleem! and VGS forums into commercial emulators forum ... makes the whole list of forums a bit shorter and might allow us to add another PSX forum soon
  • Increased the possible avatar size from 65*65 points to 85*85 points ... the file size, however, is still limited to 15 KB to keep loading times lower.
  • Added a function which allows us admins to specify a reason when we closed threads *at the top* already ... makes it easier to see why a thread has been closed.
These are the changes which have been directly done so far. Furthermore, I'd like to welcome some very skilled people which have proven that they're able to help and support the community with their great knowledge and friendliness, and therefor have been upgraded to board moderators and admins - we're talking about (in no particular order) :
  • Fivefeet8
  • Raziel
  • Zephon
  • Shiori
  • Samor
  • Prafull
More people have already been contacted about this position, and we'll look out for others to become upgraded to this position soon. BTW, as Betamax (who did a fantastic job here during the past weeks, thanks mate !) already said ... asking "will I be considered" is the quickest and easiest way to show us that you certainly aren't the right person for such a job

Welcome to the team mates, and keep an eye at this place for further changes and announcements regarding Emuforums. Oh yeah, one last thing: if you wonder why there are no new people in the forums, we've temporary stopped registration in order to clean up the boards before accepting new members - we hope to active it again within the following days. Enjoy your stay

Ah, I see how the "edited hack" works at the bottom of your post. I almost missed that.

*edit* I got this error:

That image is too large. The maximum dimensions are 65 by 65 pixels.

*edit #2*

Nevermind, it works now.

I quite like the new button also. Hopefully that should prevent accidental threads being opened.

Oh and a slight update to the new administrator list. Prafull has also joined the team.

i think the new thread button should be removed though, i dont think that there is that much need of one in an actual thread. Although the new silver metal based colour post reply button does look cool, 'specially with the winxp control panel picture on it
sincerely,
Strider

I for one am glad that the Spam forum is gone. The other changes are all noteworthy too. (Especialy that wink at the end of leaving space for a new PSX emulator)
Good work Bobbi.

Cool Second bunch of changes

As you most likely already noticed, more stuff has been changed today, but until I've added everything I wanted to, I'll just post the new changes as replies to this one ...

Quick search box
The most obvious change is the new quick search box on top of every forum ... this was added in order to hopefully prevent all these double posts from popping up again and again and to allow people to quickly find what they are looking for.

New post icons
I replaced the icons which you can choose when you make a reply with some more colorful ones ... looks a lot nicer if you ask me - comments pls.

New smilies
And this also got me to the point that I added some new smilies (couldn't refuse ), here're some examples :

:dots: :eek2: :music: :hmm: :kidding:

:inlove: :topicoff: :joice:

Enjoy the changes, more to come at the end of this week

Very useful that "Quick Search" feature. I hope everyone uses it, avoidind those constant "This has already been posted, use the search feature next time" posts.

Re: Second bunch of changes

I hope people use to me :kidding:
The ones I would expect to use of those would probs be and :topicoff:
The Quick search feature is definately a welcome addition, and more colour is almost always a good thing (but we don't want it to look like we are taking acid )

Actually I liked the other one. It made it obvious which button was the reply one and probably would have prevented accidental threads being opened.
