Hey, there's no saying that NGEmu isn't "Emulation at its best"

Anyway, I like the logos everybody. I'd do one myself, but I'm really lacking that creativity right now. NickK especially, has had quite a few interesting ideas. All the others are very nice as well. I like the fact that a bunch of people are just giving it a try

Yeah, I liked NickK's last logo with all the icons on it. My next attempt is going to do something similar methinks.

Some nice stuff...makes me wish i had more time to spend on making a better one...

If you dont mind..Id like to make a few "suggestions" to some of the aspriting graphic designers on here...

First off...Just because you are given a certain amount of space to work with..doesnt mean you should go to the edges. Its really harsh on the eyes to have a graphic go to the 4 corners of a given space, almost as if it is going outside the boundaries...be visually relaxing and try to stay a good 10-15 pixels from the edges...

Second...colors..Think about contrasting colors. Blue and orange for example...they stand out when next to each other..but light blue on a dark blue background is kinda hard to see...no amount of "glow" in the world can't make it any easier for people to read...

Third...There is such as thing as TOO MUCH. Subtle looks better 9 times out of 10..so go easy on the effects..

forth..and probobly the most important...you CAN use 2 different fonts within one word...for example..you can make the "NGE" in Arial, and "mu" in Times new roman...if you can find 2 fonts that compliment each other..this really is a neat looking effect..

And finally...text by itself is very "flat" add an outline or a drop shadow (tho I may suggest steering clear of glows...just because they usually dont work too well after compression)..

I hope these pointers help! In no way am I saying that the entires so far have been "Bad"..im just giving some pointers for those who complain that their submissions arrnt "great"...please dont mis-read this post as a warped ego trip or "know-it-all-ism"...

SLOGAN: you can use a slogan if you want, but if you do, I suggest you use "your #1 next-gen emulation source!". Just don't rip off Keith's PSXFanatics slogan

Allow me to correct you here. Even if you don't have any space left on the edges, it still wouldn't look too bad due to the way the logo is incorporated into the design (try to select the logo (leftclick+hold+drag) @ the ngemu mainpage, you'll know what I mean). I'd say 5px on each side is plenty; just keep in mind there's a black line at the bottom which shouldn't be overlapped.

I'd like to add here that since the design is quite blue already, I advise you to use some white and orange and/or other appropriate colors as well. A 100% blue logo on a blue background for a blue design would be kinda overkill

True, just make sure you don't overdo it; dropshadows aren't necessarily always cool.

Oh, one last tip: keep in mind that all the edges (except for the bottom ofcourse) have to have some blue left. In other words, if you use stuff like motion-blurred light beams that go from left to right or something, make sure the light stops beaming at the edges otherwise, when we actually incorporate the logo into the design, the beam would suddenly look 'cut off' at the edges of the logos. So make sure you keep some blue at the edges everywhere, and if you use light beams or whatever, give 'em a decent motion blur at the start and the end of it, so the edges will 'smooth out'.

Alright, here's an example of what you could do.. doesn't have any orange though, even though I wanted to use orange it didn't seem to fit in this case.

Note that the white sketchy background of the 5 logos doesn't stretch out to the edges; if it did, it would look 'cut off' in the design.

Edge problem still exists, even though it became better

Thorgals logo looks great, but the shadow at the bottom somewhat looks misplaced once you put it into the design.

I definatly agree that Orange doesnt really "work" with this sites design..however very light blue and white seem to look REALLY good..just a suggestion

I also should have clarified when I talked about drop shadows...they can DEFINATLY be overdone if not used correctly. As i said earlier in my post...Subtle is almost always better. You dont want the logo to distract from the rest of the page..

One last tip...not sure if your logo will work? Test it Save the page layout and replace their current logo with the one you use..thats the best way to see if it "fits".

...oh..and in case a few of you still dont have a decent graphics program...get your hands on "GIMP"..its free..and damn powerfull.

Im going to try and set aside some time today to work on a new logo...i kinda like the one i submitted, but after seeing some of the other ones that have popped up since i posted it...I feel i need to try harder..hehe

Oh, yeah, I liked the idea indeed.. I should've given you credits in the first place, but better late than never
And I agree with Bobbi, the edge problem is still there, though it's been improved a lot already.

Err, shadow at the bottom? Unless you mean the black line at the bottom that's required, I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Uhm, that's not quite what I meant. What I meant by "in this case" was that I couldn't make orange fit in with the rest of the logo parts I already had. However, I strongly encourage the use of orange, simply because of the fact that ngemu is blue and white enough as it is already. Either orange, or try to do something original with blue and white. Not saying that you didn't, it's just that I kinda like the orange of the site design; also because of that, the current logo is still more than decent as far as I'm concerned. But that's another story.
