So a time limit on editing posts aswell huh? well there goes the ability for me to update my FAQ.....

Whilst I agree that I may be a good security measure, it seriously screws over some of our more productive members then who have constantly updated guides and FAQs on here...

Let's see how confusing it gets when we have to open a new thread for every small change we want to make for a guide, or if we end having a guide running over 10 pages with random comments inbetween.....

There is no time limit right now and it has not been discussed... so lets not panic shall we?

other way round here, need less beer, but that won't happen. =P

SCHUMI has a point that in editing posts at a later time can be useful in the case of FAQS and tutorials and such.

I'm active on a forum that has an edit time limit.
Admittedly, it gives a lot of double posting.

...I'm all for more beer anyway (screw making sense, although I'll regret it in the morning)

My main forum is primitive. It doesnt have a edit button or delete post/thread options. Is hell in there. But it helps since is a heavy debate forum with many idiots lol

Haven't longstanding members have earned that? Of course it isn't fair. It takes time to earn respect and get privilages. In a way, it is fair to members who have proven that they are worthy of extra privilages. To give some noob rights who haven't earned them would be unfair.

So it is confirmed?. Damned, I'll really miss this feature. But I wonder how much deleting posts can be so harmful for a (the?) forum. Heh. As we can do nothing about it, no need to be cry babies anymore.

Getting over it won't be an hard task. But really, the time limit feature seems for me even less useful than the delete feature. I rarely saw people edit posts after 3 months....or less....

longstanding members don't have to earn privileges by default, though. That they are more likely to earn privileges of some sorts over newbies is logical, but it ends there, because there are idiots that are members for years and smart people that joined yesterday as well.
..besides, what priviliges would that be anyway? We all can post...

Read Samors first response to that. And we dont have to look far back for great examples.

usually when someone limits freedom, they make up for it in another area.
i.e. take away our ability to delete posts, but let everyone have 100x100 avatars or something fun like that.

but so far, the 1 thing that has been changed has just degraded the experience in the forum.
we're worried that more crappy changes like this will take place.

some of us regulars spend most of our days on this forum.
and now we're being told what to do by some new people that havn't spent over 24 active-hours here on this forum?

makes me f***ing pissed that some new guys are making these bogus rules.

just keep making the forum suck, and us regulars will leave.
then you can all be happy with your forum full of noobs with limited freedom.

I dont see how this makes the forum suck. Your freedom is in the content of your post, not if your allowed to delete or not.

I just dont get it. Maybe its because im too old or something...

its more the principal of the thing.
new guys making undesirable rules.

if the first change is an undesirable one, then what does that imply of the future?

You know, that's a good idea. I wouldn't have a problem with that. I'll bring it up with the big guy.

Thanks!

edit: um... isn't my avatar 100x100? lol

I agree with cotton, while other forums always getting better (new features add/not removed °_°), this will be a a real bad idea, unless you're about to offer new stuff (I need my 200X200 avatar + large sig).
