Problem: Flickering on Characters in Final Fantasy IX

Very new to this whole thing, but I've been tinkering with my video plugin settings for FFIX and continue to have the same issue which is, in the best way I can describe it, a "flickering" mainly on the character models. Everything thing else seems to look fine. The characters themselves even look fine, they just seem to flicker. My settings currently are:

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce 7800 GTX/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!

Resolution/Color:
- 1920x1080 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing
- Internal X resolution: 2
- Internal Y resolution: 3
- Keep psx aspect ratio:
- No render-to-texture: iœ

- Filtering: 6
- Hi-Res textures: 2
- TexWin pixel shader: on
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 1
- Framebuffer effects: 3
- Framebuffer uploads: 2

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Mdec filter: on
- Screen filtering: on
- Shader effects: 4/4
- Flicker-fix border size: 0
- GF4/XP crash fix: off
- Game fixes: off [00000000]

Thanks in advance.

If they look fine, are you talking about the edges of the 3d models? Unfortunately, that's a byproduct of primitive 3d being scaled to much higher resolutions in modern 3d hardware. It's especially noticeable when the 3d models are staying still.

In more technical terms, 3D hardware uses a technique called Z Depth, or Z Buffering to determine the placement of an image on screen properly. the PSX lacks this feature and so a lower quality method is used. This flickering actually occurs on the original hardware, though at the resolutions of a TV its less noticed.

you'll want to use no higher then 4 for filtering though.
