Missing Render Texture Extension on new computer, very frustrating.

I am getting the Missing Render-Texture Extension/No Pixel format Available error with the newest version of epsxe.

I am aware of what this typically means.

My frustration is this. I just upgraded from a 3 year old computer that used Pete's openGL2 driver 2.9 perfectly fine, with shader effects and most options enabled (though not the highest of everything) and no problems.

I now have a computer with windows 7 premium 64 bit (factory pre-installed, not upgraded from vista), Intel 2 Core Quad @ 2.5 GHz, 8 gigs of ram and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 (G45). I can now emulate the much trickier PS2 on this beast like it's nothing.

With all this in mind, is it really the case that I cannot use openGL2? Both my old computer and the new are HP Pavilions, both unaltered from the factory. Why in the world would the new one be unable to do what the old one could? This thing is only 2 days old. I don't think it's drivers, either as there are no updates available - I'm up to date. If it's a video card problem I suppose that might make sense as it is integrated but I sill can't see why I can't use simple shaders with a card that has pixel shader 4 and DX 11 capabilities...

Any insight would be appreciated.

a freaking 9800GT is under $90, a geforce GTX260 core 216 is below $200. GTX275 not that much more

See if you can use the video card of that 3-year-old computer.

Are you saying that from trying it, or just assuming? While that will play PCSX2, it surely won't do it like it's nothing. 2.5GHz is pretty okay (not bad, but not very good) for a Core 2 Duo for PCSX2, but it's not enough to be "tearing through it" though (you'd need slight speed hacks, I'd guess, for some games), and the GPU will halt anything visually demanding unless you leave the options default/low (which is also not considered "handling it like it's nothing").

That's not DirectX 11 hardware. It's barely DirectX 10 hardware.

It doesn't matter if it meets this or that level of pixel shaders or DirectX anyway. A weak GPU is a weak GPU. People criticized the 8600 cards from nVidia as borderline unacceptable for DirectX 10 performance, and that's a card many, many, many more times powerful than that Intel IGP is.

Age does not equal how good a PC is. Drop a 9600GT in there and you'll be good to go. It's pretty cheap, and shouldn't (at least I'd hope not) give the stock PSU any trouble.

That's just it. The 3 year old computer has a graphics chipset too. And yet it can do what this one can't? Something's not right with that.

I planned on buying a vid card some time down the line anyway but it's irksome all the same.

What is the graphics chipset is that older PC?

What was the plug-in configuration of the OpenGL2 plug-in on that one? Does it match the configuration you're trying on the new one?

Just running the OpenGL2 plug-in bare, and running it as it offers, are two very different things. It's akin to the situation of that IGP having DirectX10 but being too slow to use it.

it could actually be related to the drivers, having the latest drivers can obviously help with performance in more recent games but at the same time they can nail the performance of older games/applications to the floor, and in some cases render them unplayable.

i would try downgrading a bit and see if this is really happening with your games, ive seen stuff like this go on before, even with intel graphics.

Maybe the other computer has an nVIDIA/ATI IGP.
