Xenogears configuration for epsxe 1.7 (high requirements)

Hello everyone,
I'm posting a new thread for those who need help in xenogears to make it work for Epsxe 1.7.
ATM the configuration is set to high (new graphics and all)
You can change some settings to lower the requirements needed

First of all you need:

Bios= SCPH1001.bin
Video Plugin= Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Sound Plugin= Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50
CD ROM Plugin= Sapu's CD-ROM Plugin 1.0 (It's better to use image files rather than CD it self, you can change it to your liking)

Once you have the plugins, open Epsxe 1.7 and go to config for the following three:
Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50
CD ROM Plugin

Video Plugin Configuration:

Resolution & Colors

I have full screen, resolution 800x600 color depth=32 bit
Internal X resolution = 2
Internal Y resolution = 3
Streching mode = 0
Render mode = 0
__________________________________________________ ______________
Textures

Texture filtering = 6
Hi-Res textures = 1
Gfx card vram = 0

Use pxel shader for 'PSX texture windows' emulation is unchecked
__________________________________________________ ______________
Framerate

Show FPS display on startup is unchecked
Use FPS limit is checked
Use Frame skipping is unchecked
Auto-detect FPS/Frame skipping limit is checked
FPS limit is unchecked (you can change it if you want, i think Xenogears used 60 FPS, but put it as auto.
__________________________________________________ _____________
Compatibility

Off-Screen drawing = 2
Framebuffer effects = 3
Framebuffer upload = 1
__________________________________________________ _____________
Full screen filters

Screen filtering is checked
__________________________________________________ _____________
Misc

None is checked here

Done with video plugin
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________________
Sound Plugin

Audio device is direct sound with Buffer size 64
Audio out method is Thread
In Misc, 'Wait for XA buffer is free' is checked
The rest leave it as it is
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________________
CD-ROM Plugin

Drive properties are Autodetect
Caching Level = 3
Cache Size = 8
Track ISO09660 File System is checked

Thats about it
Hope that helps you folks

Sapus CDR 1.0 Does NOT work properly with epsxe 1.7.0,

Bios= DOES NOT MATTER
Video Plugin= Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Sound Plugin= Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50
CD ROM Plugin= Sapu's CD-ROM Plugin 1.2 (It's better to use image files rather than CD it self, you can change it to your liking)

Once you have the plugins, open Epsxe 1.7 and go to config for the following three:
Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50
CD ROM Plugin

Video Plugin Configuration:

Resolution & Colors

I have full screen, resolution 800x600 color depth=32 bit < using less then native res on a lcd will look bad.
Internal X resolution = 2
Internal Y resolution = 3
Streching mode = 0
Render mode = 2 < REQUIRED FOR DECENT SPEED DURING FBE'S
__________________________________________________ ______________
Textures

Texture filtering = 4
Hi-Res textures = 2
Gfx card vram = SET THIS TO THE RAM YOUR GFX CARD HAS.

Use pxel shader for 'PSX texture windows' emulation is CHECKED (copy to texture performance is decreased otherwise, raising the requirements)
__________________________________________________ ______________
Framerate

Show FPS display on startup is unchecked
Use FPS limit is checked
Use Frame skipping is unchecked
Auto-detect FPS/Frame skipping limit is checked
__________________________________________________ _____________
Compatibility

Off-Screen drawing = 1 (2 causes distance garbage,)
Framebuffer effects = 2 (3 breaks FBU)
Framebuffer upload = 2 (1 misses FBE's)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Full screen filters

Screen filtering is checked
Fullscreen smoothing is unchecked.
__________________________________________________ _____________
Misc

None is checked here

Done with video plugin
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________________
Sound Plugin

Audio device is direct sound with Buffer size 32-64 (change depending on audio lag / cracking)
Audio out method is SPUAsync - Smooth, or Wait to fix fps limiting
In Misc, 'Wait for XA buffer is free' is checked
The rest leave it as it is
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ ______________________________
CD-ROM Plugin

Drive properties are Autodetect
Caching Level = 3
Cache Size = 8
Track ISO09660 File System is checked

Seriously, high-res textures and 800x600?

^ Did you try Squall-Leonhart's sound settings? They're different than the OP's.

yes, those are the settings i am using; inexplicably, the sound for the cutscenes have ceased to work as well
using the core spu allows for all the sounds, but has distortion and crackling noises, which is why I was searching for a different config, i believe my issues are mainly with the sound configs

Hello everyone, and thank you Squall for these tips regarding Xeno configuration in ePSXe.
I tried the exact settings you mentionned above but I'm experiencing some issues.
I attached a screenshot.
Since it is the every first time I'm using ePSXe I'm kinda lost with all the Video Plugin options available...
Would someone have any clue on how to get back to the usual text boxes ? (it looks like the compass display is broken as well).
Thanks a lot,

boco

The high filtering screws up texture alpha.

Sound Issues

Hello, I'm trying to play XG with ePSXe 1.7 but I'm getting constant intermittent cracking sounds.

For reference, I'm using a GeForce 9800 GTX+ with the onboard sound (IDT Audio) on Windows XP Pro x64 Edition.

For emulator plugins, I'm using Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9, Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50, and the Internal ePSXe W2K/XP CDR. I've tried using SaPu's CD-ROM Plugin 1.3 but for some strange reason it doesn't detect the discs I've mounted using daemon tools.

I've tried lots of different settings for the GPU/SPU and still no improvements, I was hoping there was some way to play with flawless sound.

UPDATE: changing the SPU plugin to P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.9 removed the clicking/stuttering sound, but instead there's just gaps in the sound when it happens so the sound intermittently cuts out for a millisecond when the program stutters. I'm seeing similarities to the issues Antibody posted, but I doubt it's a problem with my system's specs considering I can do everything else without problems.

Using the Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50, set to SPUasync, Smooth with a buffer of 32.

Problem is the same as the one described by bocoboco. Messed up compass, dialog boxes and who knows what else. Fiddling with Texture options in the plugin doesn't seem to help. What are the exact options to set?

I've had much better luck with ePSXe SPU core 1.7.0 as my sound plugin.

Eternal SPU results in the world map theme cutting out at various spots...at least for me...

As for video, everything's cranked up:

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL 2.9

Res/Colors:
Windowed: 1024x768 (it'll be higher when I get bigger monitors)
X: 2
Y: 3
Stretch: 3
Render: 2

Textures:
Filtering: 6
Hi-Res: 2
GFX RAM: 1024 (type in manually--I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB)

Framerate:
Use FPS Limit checked, Autodetect limit

Compatibility:
Off-screen drawing: 1
Framebuffer effects: 3
Framebuffer upload: 2

Full-screen filters:
Screen-filtering checked.
Shader effects: 1, shader level 4

Misc:
MDEC Filter and disable screensaver checked.

CD-ROM plugin: default ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.7.0.

PC Specs:
Video card mentioned above
Vista x64 Ultimate w. SP2
Core i7 920 CPU
12 GB RAM
