save/load state crash

I've installed 1.70 and the latest Eternal sound and Pete's graphics, and everything works great, except when I try to save or load state, I get a MS error report message and the program closes.

Tried it on several games, all the same. No problems with memory cards, or anything else like that.

Any ideas?

save states are unstable to begin with, use memory card saves for your primary method and use save states only as something to fall back on. now does this happen in 1.5.2 or 1.6.0?

I'm using 1.7. I guess I understand instability, but shouldn't the "state" function work at all? Anything I can do?

it does work but they are prone to becoming corrupted after a while. i use them myself from time to time but i never recommend using them as the primary method of saving your game since once they become corrupted the data is pretty much lost. is there a directory called "sstates" in your main epsxe directory?

Yes, I have that file.

FYI - the point is largely moot, now, because after a couple of crashes epsxe 1.70 doesn't run ANY of my games. I've made no changes, just tried to save and load states and crashed a couple of times in a row.

I went and downloaded 1.7 again and set it up again in a new folder, to get a fresh start, and it's doing the same thing.

Should I just stick with an older version of epsxe?

FYI - and now a complete reversal. Not only is everything running ok, but save states are now working. I ran the config wizard again on the re-install of epsxe 1.7, and it's all good now. Thanks for the help!

just be careful with save states, keep backups of your memory cards if you have to.

I am facing the exact same problem. I have tried it for a long time, switch out all plugins but I am quite sure it is not related to that. Using the savestate/loadstate function will crash epsxe 1.7. The previous version works fine. The thing is, I've tried on 2 computers and it's the same issue. They have ATI and nVidia cards respectively. I also tried going through the config wizard several times and it doesn't help.

savestates should only be used on the same same plugins that they were made, changes cause corruption.

not corruption,.. the emulator state just doesn't restore correctly.

though for the most part its generally safe to load a state made with the default plugins, with others.

Since I use a new plugin for the first time for saving, not just loading that causes this issue, it has to be unrelated to plugins.

I figured out the problem. The zlib1.dll I downloaded was the wrong one, apparently there are more than one but epsxe is looking for an exact version. About time that one is included in the installer? :o
