Ok you won a warning for insulting other members.

The problem is just a false positive.

Which antiviruses and signature databases triggered that?

OK, AVG Free has just popped up aboput this issue and now I can't actually run ePSXe as the file refuses to open. I just downloaded the .zip from the main website thinking that my copy was infected, and it still pops up.

This is actually a big problem for me as I use require the emulator for a project of mine that I want to finish by the end of August.

Thus so, I require answers to the following questions:
1) When will the next release of ePSXe be released? And
2) Could anyone recommend any other PSX emulators that are similar to ePSXe? (ie. ones that run off the PlayStation disc and is compatible with ePSXe's Memory Card files)

Just do this.

For AVG (version 8), you can do this:
- Go to Tools -> Advanced Settings
- Then under Resident Shield go to Exceptions and add the path of the folder where ePSXe is in (well, epsxe.exe)

This should stop the annoying alerts, till a future database update from the donkeys at Grisoft fixes the mistake. Unless added to the exception list, AVG would refuse to open it, regardless of if you choose to "heal" or "ignore" ("heal" apparently deletes the epsxe.exe file, while "ignore basically doesnt change anything, and yet doesnt allow the executable to be run. Disabling the resident guard works too, but noone should ever disable their antiviruses anyway)

I only use 7.5 so far; I haven't updated yet.

In theory, once ePSXe's put under an exception, it should run as normal? Because it is literally refusing to run; it's lost its custom program icon also.

norton? i dont know about kaspersky but norton ANVS are total resource hogs, not to mention their reputation for identifying clean software as trojans or viruses and subsequently deleting them, which is exactly what the threadstarter is trying to avoid.

I'm aware I'll sound silly for saying this, but hooray! It's working again! Thank you very much.

norton sucks dude. if you are doing gaming you do not want something like norton on your system because it will kill your performance, norton is well known for being resource hogs.

I hate to say this but you are fooling yourselves when saying norton is a resource hog, when norton 360 and norton internet security 2008 aren't resource hogs and if you dont believe me.... try zonealarm security suite recent version and itll grind 2.8ghz dual core to a slug, and is faster than avg, avast, kaspersky and panda.... as well as using less ram and doesnt cause games to crash or take 10 min to start just for the apps to check it has a virus.... please not i like security suites and notorn 360, and the superior nis 2008 kick ass all other apps ass and nis 2008 isthe only app to remove and protect me from the vundo trojan which almost killed my vista install.... so stop blaming norton it has been fixed is right now least resource hogs compared to other apps

i know norton checks your entire pc, other anti virus sofwares do that very same thing as well but unlike norton, they somehow manage to actually work like a real anti virus should instead of working like an actual virus itself. it has a noticable habit of either not dectect things correctly or not detecting things at all, it screws up with scripts and makes them fail to work correctly, it and out of all the anti virus/security softwares ive u used over the years, norton has got to be the most annoying, intrusive protection software ive come across, mainly because it is extremely hard to uninstall completely and how it often prevents access to programs or games you want to play, specifically ones over the internet and their tech support isnt worth the carcass of a gnat.

last time i had a norton on my system i was told by one of their "professionals" that he was unsure of what to do and could only suggest a drive reformat after i asked how i was supposed to get it off my system, which is something i use as the last resort of last resorts should anything ever go wrong. i know numerous other people who have gone through the same ordeal with them. like i said, if you are intrested in gaming of any kind, norton shouldnt even be something you take into consideration. imo if you possess a little common sense and actually know what you are doing when using a computer, the majority of security issues and virus threats that are out there can be avoided making using something like that pointless.

List of best free one (ranked for safety and ease of use):

1 - Avast (most recommended. Very good script blocker and web protection)
2 - Antivir PE (has really annoying popups, unless you are using paid versions)
3 - AVG (NOT very recommened any longer. AVG is becoming much much less attractive every month. The repeated occurrences of false positives really are eroding its reputation as well. Avast it is, then)

Norton still sucks big time, by the way, and no amount of fanboism will change that. 360 is significantly better, but Norton as a recommendable security suite is simply not a wise choice. Anyone not ranking Kaspersky Suite as number one must've gotten bribe money, if not plainly doing reviews without the proper competence in security needed to write reviews about these.
The Eset security suite still sucks as well (only the antivirus is worth throwing cash on, which leaves Kaspersky suite as the most capable, safest and recommended all-inclusive sec suite for home users and advanced ones alike.
