I heard ebay has a good selection of games, as does Amazon etc....

Sorry but asking where to download games are against the board rules Strict "No Piracy" rule. Also if you are found to be in possession of illegally obtained pirated copyrighted materials when asking for support or posting a thread, your thread will be closed and you could be warned/banned.

Go elsewhere to receive support to play your pirated games.

Not very nice.

My reply:

Not here You can use real CD's too, they're less problematic to use

PS: welcome here I guess, don't forget to check this section, lots of useful info there .
PPS: wrong section, principally, but I guess it wasn't very noticeable

You're confused. The emulator and the console it emulates play the same games. The main difference is that the emulator doesn't have any sort of copy protection, which is probably the main reason why people think that emulation is all about warez.

And this is where the grey area is. If these emulators were really trying to be faithful to there goal then why do they have no 'copy protection emulation' ? No one has even tried to emulate ( or even talked about emulating ) the copy protection let alone implementing it like a 'real' console would.

Not trying to be funny ( although I doubt anyone will see this to be true ) but just trying to give an insight into why emulation is seen by some as nothing more than a catalyst in the copyright war.

- Honestly , just an observation

because the "real console" protects itself by having a weak laser which cannot read copies, modchips etc boost the power of the laser to make them read. Unless you wanna bugger up your cd drive, there isnt any way

As for the grey area, the grey area is because you are not playing the game on the original console, in one respect it means you dont need the console to play, so people can download a bios and the games and play them without worry. The reason its a grey area is because we arent "Directly" stealing anything or conning companies out of money, thats the users choice, the official stance of emulator authors and respected sites like this one is that we say you must own the console and games, dump your own bios and either use the original discs or iso images of your own discs.

So this is why the blame cant be placed soley on the emulator

@ Refraction - Thank you for the answer. I love emulation and respect what you yourself has achieved , so thank you. I also agree with the stance of sites like this one on not supporting warez but is my nature to wonder why we have so many posts about the 'd/l wiked gamez' users are trying to play.

The one area though that you did not address was the region lock out. I know on epsxe for example the same single bios will play games from all regions. As a fan of schmups I have imported a few from Japan ( home of them after all ) so my console IS modded but I have noticed this with emulation. Always wanted to know why from an author point of view why this is not implemented although not for a second do I think it should but just for the sake of completeness of the conversation. Also , since you were nice enough to give me a serious response I thought I would ask.

Thanks in advance - last question I promise.

1. Because it's our "nature" to have something cheaper, not actually to buy it, just simply download it from the net.

I'm not an emu author and I just know little about PSX BIOS :

2. Because region lock is in the DVD ROM, not located in the BIOS. Remember how we flashing the DVD ROM / RW firmware to make it RPC1 / regionless? That's the main problem, because PSX bios (i think) have nothing to do with this protection.
