:c You didn't bother to look for yourself, huh? Anyways, I'll take you halfway there, but you could at least do the other half of the search yourself. It's right out in the open, good luck.

there is a compatibility list and it sucks and i hate it and everyone should avoid it like the plague. why?

1. i'm sick of people getting lazy and asking if a game works or not. i can understand this because i was in the same place too (well sort of, my first post was asking how to set up ePSXe because i didn't want to try). seriously though, it's pretty simple.
2. there are a couple compatibility lists. and i hate when there's a thread about it not working and the poster says "but the compatibility list SAYS it works!!"
3. there are an insane amount of PSX games out there. something like 1200 or something U/C NTSC games? that's just for US. factor in all the different games around the world (lots of games weren't released in the US) and all the different versions (PE2 NTSC works perfectly, the PAL version has a fatal crash) and you have a nightmare. notice that one list is just for PAL. who has the time to test thousands of games? that brings me to my next point
4. relating to 4--who would test this? that's why that 1.6.0 list seems like BS. it's nice that all those games were tested but i wonder what the procedures were. all from legit games? (which is important) how in depth did it go? did they just get in game for five seconds and notice that it works? probably--notice how FF9 is listed as 100% playable. interesting, about 99% of the people who play FF9 on 1.6.0 get severe unpassable crashes at several points in the game. PE2 is listed as perfect when the PAL version has the known glitch of crashing at Dry Field. one would need to spend several thousand hours playing and completing every game to make a good list. it would probably take an entire year straight of playing (8760 hours in a year) to do that. otherwise the list is worthless. i wonder how many people have played PE2 PAL or FF9 on 1.6.0 just because they saw that list?? ugh.

the main concept i'm trying to get across here is that you simply don't need one. if you know a thing or two about PSX emulation (i.e. you've emulated at least one game before) then you're probably set to emulate 50 more. if you absolutely no NOTHING about PSX emulation, you can just make a post, "what are the best settings and plugins for my specs?" which is more valid than "does X game work". the first one is much more specific. you could come here and say "does FF9 work?" and we say yes but then you come back *****ing that it crashes in Dali, well you should've asked the first question...

compatibility lists are useless. try it for yourself, if it doesn't work do the basic troubleshooting steps and then do a search and if all else fails, THEN make a post about it.

but i can see how people are lazy and don't want to try. and it's pretty sad.

I wouldn't go as far as to say they're worthless; they make a good reference point as to whether or not you should even attempt to emulate whichever game. If you saw a compatibility list and there were 20 posts from people who were saying it worked like crap, you'd at least know that you shouldn't bother trying. Or maybe you should, depends on how much you wanna play it.

People more or less have to ask if certain games work, mostly because different games run better on different plugins. A lot of games a guy can figure out how to get going smooth through trial and error, but there are those out there that aren't tech-savvy (even less than me! :O ) and have no idea what 90% of the options mean. This is assuming, of course, that the guy asking if the game works under whatever plugins has searched the board already for threads on that game.

you don't need a compatibility list when there is the search function. simple as that. most games have already been discussed.

and like i said, a much more valid question is "what are the best settings for me?" rather than "does this game work?"
