Whenever I start an emu, doesn't matter if it's read from the cdrom or from an image-file, the game is run waaay to fast.

An actual playstation only has about 16 megs of ram, and a 300mhz processor.
so, games were designed to go as fast as the console could run them. when you emulate it, your processor and ram is WAY higher, so the games will run that much faster. so DarkAurora is right, enabling FPS Limiter will give the game a max speed to run at, allowing it to go the same speed as an actual psx. |

Yeah, the PSX has something like 4 megs of RAM and a 25MHz core.

I'm not too experienced at answering things like this, but if there's two buttons on the bottom of the video config (fast and nice) then click the nice & work around with those values. When I first started I was trying to play my ff8 on emu & the nice values will set it up so it doesen't go all fast (although they still need to be worked with.)

The original PSX had a 32bit RISC CPU clocked at 33.8688MHz. It also had 2mb of RAM and 1mb of VRAM. I dunno what Tark was smoking when he wrote that post. That isnt even PS2 specs...

Ok you are falling for the old mhz issue. The archetectures are totally different. An analogy would be to compare a 5L tractor to a 1L car, even though the tractors engine is bigger the car could be quicker than the tractor.
Also you have to consider that the emu is not only emulating the psx cpu, but also it's gpu, its spu etc...

Isn't there also the CPU overhead of just emulating?

Well, It's been a while since I checked back here and played a PSX emulator, and there have been many improvments since then. 1st, let me post my specs:
Intel P4 1.9Ghz OS's WinME, Win2K Pro, WinXP Pro (Tri os) 512mb SDram ATI 8500DV a-i-w DirectX 9b AxisPad FX (exactly like a PS2 controler) I've played Gran Turismo 1 back in august with the newest plugins and emulator versions and GT ran slugish, but many other games ran half way descent. Now, ePSXe 1.60 and the newest plugins emulate PSX specs perfectly on my PC. GT 1 runs nearly perfect, Syndicate Wars runs perfectly, and Kings Field 2 runs perfectly (like Half Life in Software mode). I really apreciate all the programmers here. The Cybernet Plugin I recently heard about is quite interesting and I'd like to play Syndicate Wars with someone (can have up to 4 players). I always Burn the PSX CDs to an .iso and bootup as an .iso Here are my specs for ePSXe 1.60: Plugin: P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.16 Author: Pete Bernert and the P.E.Op.S. team Resolution/Color: - 640x480 Fullscreen - [16 Bit] Stretch mode: 0 Dither mode: 2 Framerate: - FPS limit: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Misc: - Scanlines: disabled - Game fixes: on [00000020] Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41[*] Emable Sound (select to enable ADPCM sound) [*] Enable CDDA Sound (Select to enable CDROM sound) [*] Enable XA sound (Select to enable XA sound in MDEC) [_] Enable SPU IRQ (I left this blank/unchecked) Bios I use SCPH1001.BIN, but I have all the PSX bios so I don't have to worry about running PAL or import games. All games run pretty much perfect and to me all the programmers here have reached their goal of creating the perfect emulator, plugins, etc. PSinex is also well done, but like amny of us, we are busy with other projects and sometimes don't have time to finish things right-away. I hope they all know that I'm very greatful and that they have made my day
