Since it is resurrected
Well since this thread was resurrected after a year [glad I didn't do it]
My vote is for the PC version, I see a lot of people complained about the midi music, this is my favorite thing about the PC version. I use timidity, its a midi software engine, along with my custom soundfont the in game music just blows me away! As for controls for the PC I built a Playstation controller --> parallel port adapter from an old printer cable and a madcatz wireless controller receiver. So its just like the PS1 version in that respect. My video card has a TV-out so Its just like when I first played it on my PS1. These along with all the cool patches mentioned earlier [last year] make this version the absolute best in my book. Timidity Soundfont and timidity.cfg files big file warning! playstation controller driver info |

Good post though, if you post stuff like that you don't have to worry about post dates. That's why I left the thread open

The PC vs PSX debate has changed somewhat as there is the High Res patch, the High res models and MP3 music patches available for the PC edition

There was an 'ultimate patch' a while ago. PM me to remind me of this thread and I'll see if I can dig it out.

well the High Res patch has the chocobo patch built in. FF7Music is the program used to custom music (psf or mp3). The NPC recontruction patch is what makes ff7pc great too bad it hasn't been updated in a long time. Someone has been working with Kingdom Hearts Final Fantasy character models for ff7pc. also on Qhimm they have a project called Q Gears they're basically building a program to use FF7 data files. So I will probably never play the psx version ever again.

I found the playstation version of ff7 for $10 a few weeks ago. A steal considering the typical price. (my original copies were stolen :/)
I think the high res cloud for PC was just the same model found at the end of the game, after defeating sephiroth. Although the idea of playing FF7 with fancy music and nice high res battle/world models and whatnot, I don't know that I could ever pick that game up again. I got proficient with that game to the point I was at the end in less than 30 hours. Sony had to tease us with that bloody FF7 PS3 tech demo. Bah! |

It seems to be in to revive old threads with unneeded info, so I continue that with a project I really watch for a long time and I still hope it turns out to be the project I pray for...
But I will start with an article on this side: Why did the original PC port suck so bad? and now I will open this project for discussion, because Q-gears is an attempt to make a clone of Squaresoft's original Final Fantasy 7 game engine. In the future it should also is to serve as a framework for compatibility with other Square games. Here ya go for more info and the board AND the blog with informations of deving... Btw: Why is thread in ePSXe Compatibility for so many years now? I wouldn't had found it if there wasn't a new post today!

SOmeone should really move this thread to game discussion.
I'm still waiting for a new Q-Gears release, there was a new test release some weeks ago. It's the greatest deal IMHO to have this game with a great engine in the future.

I saw recently the "updated" models for ff7 PC... Plz lol ! They look UGLY ! I coulnd't believe my eyes, sure they have more polygons, but they look soooo awful with the game environment ! They replaced the character menu faces with Advent Children ones, it's horrible ! I was very disapointed, laughed loudly HA HA nice joke, and threw it to trash.

Im new to FF7 so can somebody PLEASE clear up a few questions for me
1. I have both PC and PSX version of FF8, played PSX game on PSX and yeah you know, but importantly played it on an emulator and it looked great. The PC port however was terrible, the backgrounds were completely washed out and the sound was well... midi. To make matters worse, i have a GeForce 6 series card, and so i can only use software mode meaning the 3D rendered stuff look worse than what they did on PSX! My question is, is it the same on FF7 PC. Are the backgrounds washed out? I have a copy of the PSX game which i can play with an emulator for similar results but... 2. Mods, im hearing there are some great ones for the PC version of FF7, could somebody point me to them and give me an idea of which ones exist right now

yes the pc FF7 will be just as bad for you, the hardware mode is only for one specific card type and it is far outdated, stick with the psx version. as for mods, you may like them you may not, the most known one i think is the one that replaces the field character models with the in battle character models, which imo looks weird.
