Unhappy Syphon Filter 2 Sound Issues

I have just tried running my syphon filter 2 iso and all was goin fine, narration was working etc.

now i have started the game when i go to speak to characters the blokey only says the first syllable and then the speach cuts out, but the background music and sound fx still seem to be working fin

my comp

amd 1.8 xp
geoforce 3
cambridge soundworks 5.1 destop theatre
512 RAM

using petes d3d driver 1.56
petes d sound audio driver 1.14

please hlep me guys

well my sound is so stubborn, it dosen't even talk. nothing, no words, just footsteps, adn gunfire... amybe the reload too.
