Diablo

This game only works properly on version 1.5.2, 1.6.0 is really slow.
pSX runs too slow as well. I haven't tried any others.

Sound seems perfect with P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.9.

The issue lies in graphics.

Heres a shot on Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76 ("nice" setting)

OpenGL2 looks the same as this. These lines show up all over the place sometimes, can get kinda ugly. Text is also pretty hard to read.

Heres P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.17 (default settings)

My copy of Diablo is SLUS-00619, NTSC.

I'm using scph1001
Any thoughts?
And before anybody tells me to just go play the PC version, I like how this game controls with the gamepad.
Has 1.6.0 done ANYTHING better over 1.5.2? I have one game (gundam battle assault2) that doesn't work on 1.5.2, but does on 1.6.0, but other than that, it just seems to have broken some games (FF9 comes to mind)

Edit: In hindsight this belongs in the 'problems with games' section. Sorry about that.

have you tried playing the game from the disk? are you asking if 1.6.0 works better than 1.5.2? if that is what your question is then, no. some games, ff9 and chrono cross specfically, just do not work well under 1.6.0.

Ok, let me try to clear that up a bit.
I use 1.5.2 pretty much exclusively.
I was asking if there was ANYTHING about 1.6.0 that was actually an improvement over 1.5.2

Graphically, it's the same when run from the disc. Loading times are really slow and the videos skip, none of that is a problem when ran from an image. (It's bin/cue incase your wondering.) My drive doesn't like PS1 games at all, I have to use my dad's computer to make good rips of all my ps1 games.

When using that software plugin, the game seems fully functional. I have been able to play through quite a bit of it with no issues of any kind. solid 60 FPS.
I'm just curious as to why the OpenGL plugin has this lines issue, and if there is a certain configuration that can fix this. If not thats fine, I'm pretty satisfied with the software renderer for this game.

1.5.2 has a few fixes over 1.6.0, but also has regressions which effect games... like FF9...

right, when using an image, the limitations set by your cd drive are pretty much removed, so you ususally end up with better performance. can you post the settings you have used with the GL plugin(s) or the d3d plugin(s)? lines like that are usually caused by texture filtering or hi res textures. post a screenshot of your settings and i will see if there is something that should be changed.

Try manually specifying the amount of Gfx card vram and enable unfiltered frambuffer updates. Are you using an ATI card?

nVidia, GeForce 8800GT. Those changes did not make any difference.

- Hi-Res textures: 0
- VRam size: 256 MBytes

Framerate:

- Advanced blending: hardware

Misc:
- Scanlines: off [0]
- Unfiltered FB: off

Hum...Mike.Reiner, Diablo being a 2D game, P.E.Op.S. Soft is the best choice you can make for it.

Yeah I've been playing through quite a bit of the game with that plugin, and it's been working really well.
jonc2006: Unfortunately that setup doesn't resolve it. The same lines are appearing still.
Oh well, I can stick with the Software plugin. My cpu is fast enough.
