Yep. I loved Dragon Warrior, especially Dragon Warrior 4. I can't wait until Enix translates the PSX remake.

yeah

yeah or you can dl it and just play it on a nes emu..yeah dw 3 was my fav by far...just soo interesting..

dw4 remake is due out in 2002

and there are some patchs to translate the dw5 and 6 roms to englist that are soo close to being 100% so people can even play them on an emu!

Dragon Quest 6 is a lot closer to being perfect than 5. Neil_ apparently hasn't tracked down the problems in 5. Oh well. I'd play DW 4 again, but I've already gone through the game a dozen times or so. Besides, the new version looks COMPLETELY different. A true remake, unlike those PSX FF compilations.

No. If it were that easy, I would have, but I'm wary of the "crashing problems."

The crashing problems are not that bad. I have only run into the problem ywice and I am fairly far into the game now. The solution to the crash is just load a savestate (with no menus showing) from the translated rom in the untranslated rom. I made it easy with winzip, I had each rom in a directory off the root named japanesee and english. Zipped them up with folder named preserved, so they could have the exact same name. then I just unzip the appropriate language file with 'use directory names' unchecked. Dw6 was by far the best Dragon Quest in the series. If enix had used the day/nigh from DW4 and Dq5 it would have been totally awsome. Currently I am working on PAR/gameboy codes for DW5 and DW6 I hope to have some good ones.

Thanks for the information on the release of DW VII, Ryos. I went over to the Enix home page last night and they also said it had been released here. Now I'll have to go and pick up a copy. Are you sure about DW IV coming for PSX? One of the questions in the FAQs on Enix's home page was about a DW remix for the PSX and the reply was that none is planned. So it would seem kind of doubtful to me that DW IV will make it here for the PSX.
BTW, has anyone tried Lufia the Legend Returns for the GBC? I have it and I highly reccomend it. It is a great game.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

sxamiga: http://www.thegia.com/news/0108/n22a.html. The DW 4 remake is coming sooner or later, hopefully sooner.

Suikoden 2 had average graphics at best, but its plot was incredible, only RPG I have ever almost cried in, won't tell you at what point tho, incase you haven't gotten there. (Aeris's death wasn't very emotional I thought, prolly cuz I knew it was going to happen)

yeah, ive got the US version, i went out and bought it the day it came out sorry for the lying about finding good settings everyone, i havent found the time to actaully *play* it yet (had to finish up Soul Calibur real quick).

as for DW1-3, the gameboy remakes are bad-ass! god theyre great games i cant wait till Torneko gets ported over to GBA now...

i've just started a guide for running DW7 in ePSXe, like my old FF9 was (god, im still getting emails about that...)

anyway, i think i'll be around a bit more again now. getting back into the psx emu thing after my massive dreamcast kick for the last 3 months. ...got alot of catching up to do. look at all these new sound plugins! peteSoft is going open source! wow!

oh yeah, and DW4 is coming over here. it was confirmed a couple months back. gonna be great, DW4 is possibly my favorite game ever, and the only one i have ever gone through more than once.

see ya'll

I've been playing Dw7 for a little while and i think it's great, i don't care about graphics, having to wait 30 sec to see the screen turning in 3d so then after that a spell can take 20 sec to cast then to finally beat the boss it takes 1 min no thx i don't call that fun, battle system in Dw7 is nice and simple, what about the crappy dialog? It's nice as well, it may be something with your history in RPG's if you had a great experience with the Dw series you won't care even if its crappy which isn't the case in Dw7, so far so good. That was to lizardj.

yeah

yeah the way they kept the old school battle style ect is great..and they arnt turing it into a movie like the damn FF series are now...they are just one big flippin movie.

Ive pumped in 3 hours now and im starting to fight now..yaya..some of thoes puzzels in that temple were bad ass hard, makes me think what is waiting for me further on in the game

also, with the so so gfx on 2 cds, this game must be hugely long and deep! ooo i love it..too bad i have a mid term to study for now.

[OT] Dragon Quest 5

For those of you who still want to play the Dejap Beta translation from DeJap, I have already worked on some PAR codes:

- ePSXe CDR ASPI core 1.0.1
Can you tell me what settings you used with Pete's software driver? In my game, the text boxes flicker a whole bunch and the flicker significantly slows down the game as well.

Also, has anyone run it successfully with Pete's D3D plugin, and if so, can you tell me the settings for it? It appears okay in the beginning for me, but then on the main screen, I see the text boxes but no background, as if all the layers aren't being drawn properly. Running it with D3D would, I presume, be faster than running it with software with my Voodoo 3 card? (And of course Lewpy's plugin doesn't work with it as mentioned above.)

Thanks for any help you guys can provide to this newbie.

Plugin: Pete's Soft Driver 1.1.54
Author: Pete Bernert

Resolution/Color:
- 320x240 Fullscreen - [16 Bit]

Framerate:
- FPS limit: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: Auto

Misc:
- Scanlines: disabled
- Game fixes: off [00000068]

and when i tried using pete's d3d plugin, there were some display glitches, so i prefer the software plugin, perfect.

Thanks for the link Ryos. It seems that the other information, on the home page no less, was mistaken. I will certainly be on the look out for that one when it comes out over here.
darlordjames, thanks for the reply. I agree that DW 1, 2, and 3 for GBC are as you put it, bad-ass. I never could get into DW 1 on the Nintendo (8-bit), but playing on the GBC emulator that I'm using is fantastic. I am definately going to finish it, then 2 and 3.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

Hey Puritan, i had some glitchs as well but when turned off frame skipping they disappeared, turn it off if you have it enabled, and for the resolution i both tried 640x480 and 800x600 full screen on the Pete soft driver both were working nicely. D3D and/or OpenGL crashes for me, i'll try them again once i install XP in the weekend.

Yes. The Dragon Quest series was renamed Dragon Warrior in the United States because Dragon Quest was already copyrighted (or something to that extent).
