I need some help with FF9 on pete's soft plugin.FF9 Is slow and choppy when you're walking around in towns and is really slow in the world map. In the battles The framerate is only around 5-10 and the battle menu does not show unless an enemy does a magic attack then it slightly shows but it's very transperent. This is buggying me since if i play the game with vgs, sometimes it messes up and all attacks are directed at the party no matter what, so I can't play it with that emu. Please help me.
I have a: p3 500mhz 64 megs of ram sis 620 8 meg video card 50x cd-rom Thanks. Last edited by darmox; September 20th, 2001 at 01:00. |

Well, what resolution are you using? Try 640x480. According to Pete, 16 bit colour is enough and 32bit will not make difference with the Soft plugin. Make sure you have all the latest drivers, and try making an ISO. What sound/cd plugin areyou using? Whay don't you try D3D plugin? Maybe it will work better.

Well, I fixed my speed prob. It turns out that if I run it at 320x240 with no screen stretching, it looks exactly like 640x480 streched to full screen. The game still studders on battle effects and such. I have a major problem tho. When i press triangle and go into the menu it runs extremely slow about 1/3 the normal speed, the same thing happens with the memory card menu too.
I'm using: nulls spu v1.16 (fastest for me, and the new versions have a prob with the foot step sound) epsxe cd rom core |

The patched VGS does that sometimes but I found it's completely random. You have about 1/20 chances of encountering the bug. I've been able to finish the game with VGS (albeit, with some amount of annoyance) alone. BTW, you can run from battle (normal running, not Zidane's escape ability) when you encounter the bug (although once it happened to me on a boss, arg!!)

darmox, why don't you try Iori's SPU? Null's is no longer being developed and the version that you are using is REALLY old. Iori's 1.48 is the best for most people.

Well, I tryed iori's and it was x2 slower than nulls. V1.16 of nulls gives good sound for that game and its the fastest spu plugin for me. The menu are still really slow and nothing i did solved it, maybe Pete knows? Demigod I used to play the game with vgs put when u get far the enemies are tuff so It takes a while to run away and they usually kill me.
By putting -p 16 you mean put that on the epsxe shortcut?? |

I think you should upgrading your graphic card driver
i am using the same card with you on my other pc and use pete d3d plugin but i found the game run like a breeze on my system... i recommended you using pete d3d plugin and using 640x480 resolution...usually pete d3d plugin a lot faster than the soft plugin for me....and for the sound plugin you can use pete dsound plugin ![]()
