Crash is... crashing?

Little problem here guys. Each time I try to play Crash Bandicoot on ePSXe, everything seems to work fine until I get to a save screen (Bonus Stage, Collected Gem, Collected Key, etc...). As soon as the game tries to detect a memory card, it crashes. What's the matter with it? And more importantly, is there a way to disable the memory cards with ePSXe? I wouldn't care about using Save States, but I'd first need to know how.

Oh and yeah, sorry for asking so much questions but I'm new to PSX emulators. Well until then, off to play any possible games I can find. Or maybe just some Anarchy Online.

Does the emu actually crash out or does the screen just freeze? If its just a freeze then hit F4 when it happens. Savestates won't get you around this problem in Crash by itself, but here's how to use them.
F1 -saves to the active slot
F2 -swithes to the next slot(1-5)
F3 -loads the active slot.
Sometimes savestates cause problems like not showing mdecs after loading, sound not playing, etc...so don't use savestates exclusively if possible.
