G'ah.. Problem.
Chrono Cross has worked great for me up to this point.. But yesterday, I decided to go ahead and end this game to unlock New Game+ .. Unfortunately, after beating the Time Devourer, the screen faded to black and the game froze. I used the Chrono Cross patch, F4, F5, and whatever else I could think of. *shrugs* .. I've been using a Radeon card with Pete's D3D.. and yes, yes, I know OpenGL is so much better.. for Geforce users, who have much better drivers.. -_-"
..Anyway, I did try the OpenGL plugin, just to see if it would work. Then, I tried it with my Voodoo 2 and Lewpy's Glide.. which produced better results than the previous 2. It showed the first frame of what I'm guessing were the credits. *shrugs* If anyone knows how to help, it would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks. |

d3d is probably the best plug-in for your radeon, and I think for that part you have to turn on fvp, but my memory could be wrong.

^_^ Thanks for the feedback.. I tried with FVP.. with all my plugins. I spent about 2 hours configuring and reconfiguring my gpu plugins..
Then I started changing out the cd-rom plugins.. As it turns out, it's a read error-- the only problem is, I get the same results with EVERY plugin I use. .. I suppose that either means that all the plugins I use are either misconfigured or simply incompatible.. or that the cd is damaged, or something to that effect. I don't really know how to rip PSX games.. Besides, this isn't the place to be talking about things like that I suppose.. So, I dunno.. *shruugs* Sorry for rambling on like that.. o.o |

If you own the game, ripping is just fine - the emu even has native support for it. Just run BlindRead/Write or Goldenhawk CDRWin and create a .bin file (or a bwt file, the format is the same). Then, instead of running the CD, hit run iso, and point to your "ripped" game. That's it! The advantage? Most of the time (99.999%+), I have been able to run games that were "damaged" by doing this. I then immediately back it up on another CD (as I HATE having more than 25 images on my hard drive at a time), and it should run fine (if the reading software read w/o errors).
For error handling, I believe BlindRead/Write is the better option. Good luck!

Hrmm.. I tried making an image with ISO Buster, and it kept giving bad sector errors when it reached 85% .. Then with BlindRead, it took a little time getting though the parts that ISO Buster had trouble with, but it made the file.. The only problem is the fact that the .iso runs the same way the cd did; freezes as soon as the screen fades to black. *_* .. After that I downloaded Daemon Tools and tried mounting the .iso and running it that way; Same problem..
With Lewpy's Glide and my V2 in wireframe mode I can get a bit more to show, though.. back at the beach with Marle, Crono, and Lucca.. but after a couple of seconds, it freezes. *shrugs* Heh.. I'm saving for a PS2, so I guess I can just wait until then... Thank you all for your help though.. ^_^ Last edited by gwydion_eredhel; August 30th, 2001 at 16:33. |

No...if BlindRead says that it got an error-free image, then it got a perfect image...which means that the problem goes beyond just being a bad CD. If you can, try another machine...see if the same thing happens. I know that game has many, many endings, maybe it's also possible you found one that ePSXe doesn't emulate...also, try using FPSE, AdriPSX, etc., and if you have VGS, try that too.
Upon failing that, I believe that ePSXe has a place where you can mail save-states that freeze on you in the interests of improving the emu... Maybe you found one such problem... maybe you're using a Kalisto copy... maybe it's just a driver problem... maybe this... maybe that... I can't say. If you do send a save-state, be aware that the problem will still not be solved until possibly at the next release.

after just-beating the time-devourer, u just see the credits, that ending sucks...
do the chrono-cross spell (its preety complicated, so check a walktrough) to get a decent ending (it may work like that) and after seing the ending if it freezes just Dload a save game w/ newgame + (if u need one just tell me )

Takes a lot of guts to admit that, Neo... I'm impressed. Sorta.

Well.. I guess this is making things more complicated than need be; .. I posted my save here.. d'you think one of you could get New Game+ and email the save back, or something? I haven't been able to find any saves that weren't waaaay into the game.. My email addy is ssj_foofighter@yahoo.com .. |

i had a nacked copy of Xenogears (sorry nowhere sells it, i had to get a copy). the first cd was scratched to hell, and it was randomly locking. and when i tried to make a .bin i got bad sector errors too.
What you want to do is use CDRWin and you can actually select for it to ignore errors and continue regardless. I did this, and used the iso and i played right thru the game with no problems. I cant see why the same wouldnt work here.
