Hmm. Unfortunately, FF8 doesn't like you using save states....
Did yuo try pressing F4 before saving?

It might help. It's a SIO IRQ toggle. don't know why it works, but often it does.

I really have no idea. I assume that IRQ means Interrupt ReQuest (or something along those lines) like in PC's but I could only guess at what SIO means.

If you currently using epsxe 1.5.1, put the patch in the patches folder... You can find cheat at www.cmgsccc.com. You can also try using [pec] www.emucheater.com

Alternately you can use CEP http://members.tripod.co.jp/DrHell/labo/index.html to cheat in the game. Just copy and paste the code you get from cmgsccc to CEP

dont use the cheat menu in epsxe... download CEP, extract the files to any folder, run cep.exe, select emulator at the process tab, copy and paste the code at cheat tab and click the on button..

If you use [pec], download [pec] from www.emucheater.com, run pecsetup.exe , follow the instruction found in the documentation

at least in the linux version the memory card files are not written to the hard disk if you don't exit the game to the ePSXe main window by pressing ESC (but kill it hardly, e.g. by turning off the power). I finished FF7 with memory card save (savestate only at a few nasty points to avoid playing the same scenes again and again)
