The huge slowdown before battles can be caused by 2 things.. Loading from the CD if your playing from the cd, or some framebuffer effects for the transition.. Either turn them off(framebuffer textures to "black") and run the game from an iso.. I don't experience any slowdown when begginning battles.. It's just a smooth transition..

As I said one hundred times already, the battle transition of FF8 isn't a framebuffer effect and can't be turned off,the only way to make it faster is to get a faster system,to play at a lower resolution,or use frameskipping.

It still takes me about 5 seconds to load the battle. Does it on my voodoo2 as well so It's most likely not a video card thing...

That's weird.. I can turn them off with lewpys glide pluggin if I set it Off screen drawing to "Basic" and Framebuffer to "disabled".. I guess only lewpys glide pluggin can disable them.. All I see with these options is some weird softwarish screen.. No transition effect.. But since they run full speed anyways, I leave them on..
