Epsxe 1.51 Music problems

Epsxe introduced fixes to games that never used to work. Granstream Saga and Brave Fencer Musashi seem to work perfectly now. Epsxe also added a fix for Final Fantasy 7 music. I'm not sure if I can prove it, but I think the fix messed up the Final Fantasy 9 music. When a battle starts, the music gets caught on a note, which continues playing along with the rest of the song as the battle continues. When the battle ends, the victory song also gets caught on a note, making the victory song sound like it's being played twice but mixed. This bug is there no matter which GPU or SPU I am using. I don't think it has to do with my hardware. After all, look at my stats below.

No, FF9 plays the way it always has. If you're using the Eternal SPU, you can fix the problem by checking the box update before accessing register.

Last time I looked, hanging note were a result of the ePSXe internal sound core. If you're using that, switch to Eternal.

Eternal SPU is the best for playing ff9 without problem...

I in fact do use Eternal's plugin because of it' s high compatibility. Sadly, it still doesn't seem to help.

Yeah I get that stuck note from time to time. The solution? Pause the game then unpause. I know its annoying but it works.

That bug with the internal spu has been there for a while.. Before the new version.. The new version does lessen the effect, but it's still there.. Using the eternal spu, I don't get that weird sound effect.. Mess with your sound buffer settings.. Make sure you don't enable spu irq in the epsxe sound options if you are using the any spu besides the internal spu.. ie.. eternal spu..

No SPU IRQ's are enabled, in either the Eternal SPU or Internal SPU configurations. It sounds funny, but if I put back Epsxe 1.50 (not 51) then the music sounds perfect. It has to be the emulator. Prehaps I should address this to the makers of Epsxe.

you can try that, also try some other sound pluigns available... maybe you just have to find other than Eternal plugin.

I understand that. I have tried ALL (I do mean all) of the SPU's, and none of them work. It worked fine in the last version. Why shouldn't it work now? Maybe it has to do with the new fix that was added in 1.51 that fixed the FF7 music timing. Afterall, FF7's way of outputting music is very similar to FF8 and FF9. This thread is pretty much directed towards the makers of Epsxe rather then the usual crowd, although it may be interesting if someone else has the same bug.

but your sound problem only happens on the FF games and not to other games??? I mean you encounter this sound problem only on the FF games... and not on other PSX games.

That's exactly my point. On the Final Fantasy games are affected because there was a special fix (this thread is taking forever) for Final Fantasy 7. Since FF7 - FF9 used similar ways of producing music, I believe that the fix for FF7 messed up the music (at least for me) for FF8 and FF9.

FF9 works perfect in epsxe ver 1.49 with etenal spu ver 1.20. Try increase the sound buffer from 8 to 10.

Sheesh... I'm not talking about Epsxe 1.49. I am using 1.51. It works correctly in all the others! Oh, and by the way, why did you bring this old post of mine all the way to the top? It bothers people, you know...

if the bug only occurs when the ff& sound fix is on, then why are you playing FF9 with the fix on? It seems to me that using a different profile in executor for FF9 would solve your problem, although I could be wrong.
