You can try running the game at 640x480 resolution.. This may help with your 2d backgrounds.. Since you don't have a FSAA capable video card, use petes d3d gpu pluggin and set filtering to "6".. And use the 640x480 resolution or 800x600 if you think the 3d characters are too pixelated..

But I'm using 3Dfx Voodoo 3 2000 graphic card. I thought Lewpy's plugin is the best?

Lewpy's Glide will definately offer you the best performance, but the graphics quality will not be so, since the V3 can't do FSAA. Pete's plugins have some nice filtering options(as mentioned by fivefeet8).

yeah, can someone post up the best settings for pete's plug-in. I have a geforce 4, but I am having trouble in getting the best possible output.

Also, for my card (Nvidia geforce 4), which is better: D3d, OpenGL?

The only way for FF9 to run propertly w/o all the garbage is if I run it on software mode, is there a better alternative?

If you have XP, possibly 2k, you can use these settings for ePSXexecutor. Just enable 4xFSAA if you are using the Final Fantasy settings.

i just read your other post, and it did the job quite well. Only when i run it in 1024x768 it becomes really slow. Should it be this slow on a geforce 4?

1 last thing: which one is 4xfsaa? Here are the options that I have:
Off
2x
Quincunx Antialiasing
4x
4xS (Direct 3d only)

thanks for your help.

4x
The settings should be configured so that it runs at optimal speed/ quality on a Gf3/1.4GHz, so it souldn't slow down too much. The reason it's in 640x480 for the FF settings is so that the background doesnt get blurred. If you change the rez up in that setting it will slow down as I use full vRAM primatives so that FSAA doesn't slow down the battle swirls

Anyone know the differences between Quincunx AA and normal AA(4X,2X)??

Taken from the description at display properties:

"This option enables a patented antialiasing technique available in the Geforce GPU family

Quincunx antialiasing offers the quality of the slower, 4X antialiasing mode at nearly the performance of the faster, 2X mode"

The Quincunx AA is available only in the GF3, and it's indeed faster than the 4XFSAA, but the quality is not so good. Here's a text taken from Anandtech:

Quote:
Quincunx is another FSAA method which is, like MSAA, only currently employed by the GeForce3. It utilizes both a 2X RG MSAA sampling and also a blur filter to deal with texture alising. The effectiveness of this method is the subject of much debate right now, but most people compare Quincunx to 4X FSAA solutions while it incurs a performance hit comparable to 2X.
