ff9 usa problems

iv'e been having problems playing ff9, from what i've seen on this forum, i think its b/c of copy protection, but i dont know how to get past it yet. when i start a new game, it plays the opening mdec where you see the ship go on the ocean and stuff, and when the main character (the guy with the tail) enters the door, it drops out to the console and says that its an unknown opcode, i'll post the exact message a little later, but i think its either a bad ISO dump or copy protection. i've seen other people on here who dont seem to have this problem so i think it could just be me being an idiot. if you need system specs. just ask i'll post them

There is co copy protection like that on the US version. If there is copy protection, it simply prevents the game from booting.
The unknown opcode I get too. I have not yet isolated the problem.

i've found a page that has a patch for virtual game station that suposedly makes it be able to play ff9 usa, so what i'll probably do is start a new game in there and convert the memcard, so that i can continue in a decent emulator like ePSXe. if i have any success i'll post the mem card so people can play from it.

thats a very old issue that was resolved a long time ago. make sure you are using the latest version of epsxe and plugins, etc.

when you said bad iso dump it sounds like you got it from irc or something =). those versions are usually patched and not very stable, you should try to go out and buy it if that's what it is. it's only 20 bucks now which isnt too bad at all. try using pete's newest cdrom plug in(1.10), use the newest peop soft plug in(1.5) to try to get past it, use eternal for sound plug in(1.2). change the setting back to what you want afterwards hehe. if that doesnt work then im outta ideas.

i know its not a bad iso dump now (i made it from a friends copy anyway) i've got it working with VGS but epsxe still does that, i load it up and a few seconds later it stops working, i'll try that plugin combo and see if it works though.
