Question Rival Schools Evolution 2 - problems with music and stills

New guy here, and newbie with ePSXe - just started using it to try my favorite PSX game Rival Schools Evolution 2 (japanese version). Overall I can at least play the game. Problems are these:

1. Background Music - in some instances it doesn't play where it should (eg game's main menu after the logo screen, or occassionally during the fighting), and if I try high detail graphics settings, effects like Super Attacks causes the background music to slow down like a phonograph or analog tape recorder that's low on batteries. Tried different plugins and their respective settings but couldn't get rid of this problem.

2. Still pictures - the game features still pictures (that can be purchased from an in-game store) consisting of anime style character artwork, and viewing them is problematic - they just flash briefly then the screen goes blank, regardless of graphics settings.

Anyone else with Rival Schools Evolution 2 and using ePSXe to play it? I also have Connectix VGS and that emu has no problems with that game, if not for the lack of 3D accelerator support.

My system (if it would help to post it)

PentiumIII 866 Coppermine CPU, not overclocked
ASUS CUV4X-C motherboard with rev 1005 bios and VIA 4.25 4-in-1 drivers
256MB PC-133 SDRAM
MSI Power256 (NVIDIA GeForce 256) with V6.50 reference drivers, not overclocked
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! Value soundcard with latest drivers
Creative Labs 8X DVD-ROM drive
Quantum Fireball 10GB, Seagate 30GB, Maxtor 14GB hard disks (all IDE)
Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad controller with 3.20 drivers
Windows'98 SE with DirectX8.0a

Please, do yourself a favor and get the Detonator 12.40.
And also make sure you have the latest AGP driver from VIA.

No thanks, ever since I've had BOSD's and other problems running 3D accelerated games and apps with "leaked" drivers. (6.50 is still the official driver version at NVIDIA's download website).

I'll check those out.

Meantime, Connectix VGS will be my primary PSX emu.

So, how do you expect to get a better performance then? Magic?! Miracle?!
It ain't gonna happen.

hey, why don't you give it a try, i also own a geforce256 and the new 12.+ drivers did great on me specially with framebuffer effects with pete's gpu. and from experience they have been very stable.

also from what i have heard the 12.+ drivers are almost near completion(to be used as geforce3 drivers) meaning they are close to official.
