graphics problem
This question might be posted before but I am really stuck now. I run all my games at 1024X768 resolution but it seems like some of the 3D games have blocky background effect. An example would be the world map on FF9. You can see bunch of squares like up together... Not all the games have this problem, only some does.
Any idea how to solve this problem? Monitor : 19 inch Viewsonic G90f GFX card : Asus geforce 2 MX with lastest Nvidia Detonator driver Desktop res : 1024X768 (same with all my psx games in epsxe) and auto FFSA settings (allow applications control FFSA) Is it because I use such a high resolution? Should I lower the res a bit? |

This is normal with those plugins/settings, because of the filtering and the high resolution, which cause problems with the texture alighment.
Live with it, or lower the resolution and disable filtering Or use a software plugin. btw, afaik turning the FSAA setting to auto means it won't be used, since epsxe etc.. don't automatically use FSAA if it's available. Mortu |

So should enable 4XFSAA or 2XFSAA to get maximium performance? My desktop res is 1024X768 with 32 bit colors. I tried 4XFSAA with my geforce 2 MX but it seems the games will slow down a lot... both PC and psx games. |

4x FSAA on a Geforce 2 MX will put a heavy strain on your videocard. Esp at 1024x768. If you want to enjoy 4x I'd lower that to 800x600 or 640x480. Really depends on your computer (cpu, memory bandwidth), if it can take the strain.
I'd experiment a bit Just beware that some games can slow down A LOT with certain effects (3D games of course) if you computer can't handle the bandwidth.(e.g. ff9 battle swirl effects cause my Geforce2 Pro and p3 700 to slow to 5 fps or so in 4x FSAA ![]() Mortu |

How does it work? |

The filtering really depends on what you like, I always set it to extended (2?) Damn can't really remember it atm since I'm not at home. Anyway, some people like the smoothed look, some people don't. I really think your sys should be able to handle 2x in nearly all situations. (Just like mine) There's only a few games (ff9 for instance) where I turn it off. Oh yeah, if you turn on FSAA, turn off smoothing, unless you want slow-motion
. Like you I play in 1024x768x32 and never notice much slowdowns in most games.Mortu |

OK, i changed my desktop res from 1024X768 to 1280X1024 since I am using a 19 inch monitor and is a waste if i set the res lower than what i can get.
Anyways, i tried to set all my psxe games to the same res like my desktop but I suffered major slowdown... so i switch it back to 1024X768 but now i was afraid epsxe might crash because I heard if the desktop res is different from epsxe res, something weird might happen. Is that true??? |

turning on FSAA will mean less jaggies on the edges of 3d objects. screen smoothing however will blur the whole screen making 2d look less pixelated. the higher the used resolution, the bigger the slowdown tho.
i suggest using my config Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.58 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation GFX card: GeForce2 MX/AGP/SSE Resolution/Color: - 640x480 Fullscreen - Desktop changing [16 Bit] - Keep psx aspect ratio: off Textures: - R8G8A8A8 - Filtering: 0 - Garbage collection: on - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 3 - Framebuffer texture: 2 - Alpha multipass: on - Mask bit: on - Advanced blending: on Misc: - Scanlines: off - Line mode: off - Unfiltered FB: off - Dithering: on - Screen smoothing: on - Full vram: off - Game fixes: off [00000002] Last edited by Ultragunner; March 7th, 2002 at 18:40. |

1024x768 is still pretty high and can cause slowdowns on alot of games - especially if you keep the textures and off screen drawing at high levels. Even with my 1.5 ghz and 512 megs of RAM, when using high screen resolutions, I suffer some serious slowdowns. Most of the time though, setting things at 640x480 w/ 32 colors with the textures and filtering on high will still yield a good looking screen (on alot of games, I can't really even see much of a difference between 640x480 mode and 1152x864 anyway, which is what my desktop is set to otherwise).
Click on change desktop settings - your desktop will switch back to its default resolution settings as soon as you exit epsxe fullscreen mode so don't worry about it.
