Screen Smoothing

Should I use this in conjunction with texture filtering?

It makes 2d images look better doesn't it so it will look best with extended filtering w/o sprites?

Thanks,

i just tried screen smoothing at 1024x768 with extended filtering and 2xFSSA and it just hurts my eyes! I think i'll keep it off.

I wasn't too impressed by screen smoothing either. It makes things look a little scungy, like it's using PeOps software plugin. Still, it doesn't matter since I can just turn it off and save myself a performance hit.

Me neither. It makes a big slowdown in my comp, and it doesn't make the difference that texture filtering does.

It looks like PeOps plugin because you use Nvidia's card. You can see the different if you use other video card. (don't know about 3dfx's)

I am impressed by the full screen smoothing, my games looks great with it enabled. However... it drops my FPS a lot...

I didn't find the slightly improved graphics to be worth the huge hit in speed. If Pete can lessen the drop, it'll be a better option than it currently is.

In Xenogears the screen smoothing is just AWESOME. The graphics look superb.

Yeah for what it does is not worth the huge performance hits in most games anyways...

some will adapt to it without losing the fps others will not lose that many frames.

I think Nickk's OGL plugin looks like a better option for 2d/3d but damn the last time I run his OGL plugin it was very very buggy. A lot of graphics glitches

I agree, but it basically makes the game unplayable because of the slowdown in fights and other places. I have Athlon 1.33GHz, 768MB ram, GeForce3 Ti200. Maybe a faster CPU would improve it. I just play the game from further away and my mind smooths it out

to me it didn't make that much difference, personally I'll stick to 4xFSAA, maybe id like it more with 2D games, oh an it took between 10-20 FPS out of my gaming speed, and in games like Fear Effect CB1/2/3, or WipeOut it made NO visable difference, and FF9 and PE2 looked fuzzy.
