Xenogears help desperately needed
Hello!
Using epsxe, I just got up to the point right after the Yggdrasil has been destroyed, and right before Fei ends up in Kislev jail. Now, right before that there's a cutscene, where Fei as a child plays with a ball, et cetera...however, at that point (as has been said by many people) Xenogears grinds to a halt. Someone here posted their OpenGL configuration (and said this didn't happen to them), but even using their config, I still get the problem. So a two-tiered request: a) Does anybody have a foolproof way to get around this? if not.. b) I was the one who posted problems re. saving in Xenogears. I *do*, however, have a Save State at the part right before this (i.e. when the game asks you to save). I would be *incredibly grateful* if someone who does not have this problem for whatever reason could get me through that segment of the game (i.e. if I sent 'em my save state, and then they sent it back). My email address is grficain@uchicago.edu, if anybody can help me in this way. Thanks! -D |

That person was me. If you want to send me the savestate then all is well. The address is noorde1@pd.jaring.my. I will try to get through the part. The game is still moving right?

Hmm
I managed to get my hands on a dexdrive save a little bit after where we both got stuck... you miss the whole imprisonment part... but hey at least you get to continue playing the game... yes i know how ****ty it is to not have your chars any more but what else can you do lol. anyways if you want the memcard ( i converted it and its compatible with epsxe now) here it is... use the first save on it for the closest one to where we froze.

Hmm
Want to get through it?
Use the emulator FPSE...It plays Xenogears flawlessly, and has a built in memory card too that can import your EPSXE save...This way you can go past the point and either continue on FPSE, or go back to EPSXE. There is a poll by the way for a new release of FPSE...any support is appreciated. The Poll is HERE |

The problem is, I haven't been able to get Epsxe to save correctly in Xenogears (even with the F4 and F5 "tricks," it flat-out refuses to save successfully to the memory cards). Thus, I can't actually import the game, unless Fpse has a save-state compatibility thing as well.

Furthermore there is also a way to get through the Deus battle as I have said before. You just need to try several times and then eventually when you get lucky you can kill him in one hit when he lowers his HP enough. Just hope that it doesn't freeze before this. This is why I had to try about 8 times. The secret is in this battle to not attack him because otherwise he heals and the game will definately freeze. I fought him with Citan, Fei, and Bart in case you were wondering.

I will add my tuppence worth to this topic, lest it may help some poor soul.
I will add before I do that, that I finished Xenogears last week, ENTIRELY on ePSXe, so it is perfectly possible. (well, for me anyway )Also, I have never had any trouble with the Mem-card saves, or the Save-states with this game, so can't help there. For the Deus battle, all I did was SAVE after every single move that didn't freeze the game. And load the save if Deus did his move that freezes the game. To me, it seems to happen when he targets my characters with an attack, and then the game locks. I also only attack Deus ONCE to get him to start doing the old half the HP move on everyone, and then kill him when he has 2500 HP. For the 'dream sequence' that a few people have mentioned, I basically did the same. Save just before it was going to happen, (when I still had control) and then just load up when it locked, which it did a couple of times, and then BANG!! it got through it And obviously for the game in general, I used the fix in Petes GL plugin, that removes that black block from the screen in certain scenes... |

I don't think there is any other way to beat Deus FrankBrodie. You have to wait until his HP is around 2500 otherwise he will jsut heal for 16000 or so. I can't remember the exact figure.

crap, the same thing happened to me in xenogears. the game froze during the dream sequence and since mem cards dont work for me, all i have are save states. i have one savestate in Nisan before the meeting in the meeting hall, and one during the dream a couple of seconds before the game freezes.
will loading up a mem card with a xenogears save will let me write over it, even though i have problems with creating a new save game? |

I've got the same problem, but not at the first dream scene, but when I encounter Id for the second time and fei is locked up in him.
Id sais he will show me a part of himself and then I see a countdown movie. The game crashes randomly in this scene... Strangely I got past the dreamscene perfectly. Might it be the new Epsxe or a new gfx plugin that i've upgraded to? I'm going to try |

Okay, I managed to solve the problem by downloading epsxe1.2 and loading up my last memcard save file (I always save both memcard and savestate saves to be save) and killing Id again. Alencious, thanks for your tip.
When inside Id everything went ok. I think I was able to play the last dream scene correctly because I was using Epsxe 1.4 and that one might also solve the problem. I don't have it anymore thought, but I'm going to dl it somewhere and play xenogears further with that emu. |
