Angry Lock-up in Final Fantasy IX

I'm on Disc 4, in the Crystal Area. Whenever I go to fight Deathguise, he ries to cast Meteor and then the game "sticks." The music keeps playing, I can still select actions for my party, but Deathguise is just floating there continuously doing nothing! It's not frozen, it just keeps looping the same animation over and over. The same problem occured when I was in Memoria and attempted to have Vivi cast Meteor or a Behemoth tried to cast Meteor Strike. What is wrong?!?!? I WANNA FINISH THIS ($#*@)@*@) GAME!!!!!!!!!
(takes deep breaths) sorry. :help:

Wow. I had the exact same problem with FF7 on the actual console a few years back! Probably a software defect.

Hmm... Does anyone else have any of these problems with Final Fantasy IX on the actual console?

Okay I used a program called Blindread to make an ISO of the disc and it said it had 76 'bad sectors'
A) Does this mean my disc is dirty/scrached?
B) Is this the source of the problem?
C) Am I breaking any rules by posting this message?

A) VERY Possible.

B) If (A) Is true, then it should be the culprit here. Seems like the data used when someone casts meteor is corrupt.

C) I don't think so ..

D) You might want to try another CD Borrow it, rent it or whatever, and use Blindread to extract the whole disk again.

as ive found out savestates + ff9 = a whole helluva lot of lockup issues.

never use savestates with ff9, somehow, me using them frequently totally screw my memcard as well, and epsxe would lock every time i tried to load my memcard luckily i was only on the start of disc 2 and a very knd person from these boards sent me a save close to where i was

also, try giving your disc a good cleaning, or getting a cd scratch remover. all it does it take of a layer of CD, and removes the minor scratches.

I've had no problems with savestates before. i can't find anyone that has FF9 though. They've all sold it for either a PS2 , XBX, or GCN. I will try the CD scrach remover though. Seems better than sending it to squaresoft...

try another emulator

you can try using the vgs 1.41 to run it, you can convert your *.mcr file to *.mem flie (vgs memory card) if you don't want to paly the game all over again.......

I had no probs on either the PS, PSone, PS2 or my PC w/ or Wo/ savestaes in FF9. I think it possible that the reading prob could be the source of your problems.
