Dreamcast prototype zip drive!

Years after it have died (fanboys, not the face!) it still keeps surprising me. Just follow the links to see apparently the only zip drive out there for the dreamcast. only one as they say it was a pre-production prototype which was cancelled when sega decided to back out.

eBay auction reveals prototype Dreamcast Zip Drive - Engadget

Sega Dreamcast Zip Drive extension box rare - (eBay item 250163670619 end time Sep-19-07 21:32:17 PDT)

They almost make it sound as if they've discovered something new, while it never was a secret such an item existed. Still the first time I see it go on sale though.

amazing, and reminds of me of the famicom disk system for some reason

...however, the shortlived zipdrive (I had one for PC) was outdated as soon as the CD-R became common. At the time that the DC was hot, it was already an outdated technology.

OT: hushy, that's the most normal avatar you've ever had yet.

I found it amazing too. Too bad there's only that one, right? Homebrew would rock on that.

Yes, the Zip Drive is a piece of crap. I had a PARALLEL PORT one because the USB one was more expensive. When transferring files, CPU usage shot to 100% and you couldn't do anything else, it pretty much locked up the computer completely. And the transfer speed was soooooo slowww.......

And thanks about the avatar...I just wish it was a bit better copy. If I had a scanner I'd just scan the CD booklet...

It's too grainy and the color balance sucks...the actual cover is sharp and nice, and the background is bright white. Maybe if I found a high-res scan of the cover I could do a crop, hmm...

Hmm, 10,000 dollars? That's a bit excessive....smells a bit of a rip-off.

P.S: Cid, sorry about the bleemcast disc....

I had a parellel port one (when USB wasn't common yet); blue one - slow indeed.
Liked it back then though (~1998), my favourite Roms on one zipdisk

oh yes...for example: mame, fmsx, vgb, ines, zsnes, kgen, magic engine, sardu's inappropriately named emulators
many sites carried roms and no one cared, rather, they downloaded them
