Lightbulb NVIDIA unveils the GeForce PCX!

Well, I Don't know if this series will be worth it (I'd wait for second generation PCX GPUs) anyway check it out.

-data-
NVIDIA unveils the GeForce PCX family of graphics processing units (GPUs): the industry's first top-to-bottom family of PCI Express GPUs.

The GeForce PCX GPUs will deliver better graphics and more vibrant digital media to PC consumers through the additional bandwidth and features offered by Intel's new PCI Express bus architecture. Since the GPU has the largest bandwidth demand of all the PC subsystems, NVIDIA has been a key contributor to the joint definition, development, and deployment of PCI Express solutions.

NVIDIA PCI EXPRESS GPUs:

ENTHUSIAST
NVIDIA GeForce PCX 5950 GPUs: deliver extreme graphics power and performance for extreme gamers.

PERFORMANCE
NVIDIA GeForce PCX 5750 GPUs: designed for high-performance gaming with NVIDIA?s full suite of cinematic effects and an unmatched feature set.

MAINSTREAM
NVIDIA GeForce PCX 5300 GPUs: deliver state-of-the-art, best-in-class features and the reliability users have come to expect from NVIDIA, at an affordable price.

VALUE
NVIDIA GeForce PCX 4300 GPUs: provide entry-level pricing coupled with strong performance and unbeatable visual quality

meh, i read about this like last week. it's pretty lame...kinda like putting the Voodoo cards into AGP..extra speed but no need for it

Well this had to happen sometime, might as well have been now being that we're between graphics card generations (something to keep money rolling in).

These GPUs will unlikely provide any significant speed increase, these seem to be just refresh products mostly. I think we'll have to wait for a while for a card to fully utilise PCI Express.

All this looks like to me is just a redirection in how the GPU throughputs data, which won't increase processing speeds, yet will most likely improve data throughput.....maybe dramatically.....but then again, maybe not.....I'll wait until they actually DO something with this line to buy one.....I already spent $230 on my FX 5600.....

230 on a FX5600? im sorry to hear that of course, mine was probably almost that much, so what the hell am i saying. i got my FX5600 the day before the 5900 ultra came out. i remember i got my comp, and went to Fry's the next day, and there was a huge display thingy for the launch of the 5900u.

Well, if I'd waited another month, I would've been able to get a 5600u for about 190-200.....oh well.

They still haven't maxed-out AGP 8x even! Why the hell do they need PCI-Express?

(It's at least 2 or 3 generations of GPU away before anything close to that bandwidth is needed.)

Companies need money and they created a new standard just to make you change all your PC. Soon you'll have to change your HDs from PATA to SATA too

Well, PCI-Express and Serial ATA have much more long-term potential - there are many other things to it besides speed.

And hey, at least ATi announced new gfx cores for their PCI Express line. :-)

The problem with AGP is that it eats resourses to use it and it's only half-duplex. I'd assume with more bandwidth avaliable and less system load, it'd be viable to do more switching frommain memory.

First of all, you should always introduce new technology well before the old one is maxed out. It takes time to develop new technology and for hardware manufacturers and the public to adopt it. We need PCI-Express now so people won't be reliant on AGP technology in the future.

Secondly, AGP is complex, parallel, and half-duplex. PCI Express is relatively simple, serial, and full-duplex. There's a lot more benefit than just more bandwidth. It'll be easier and cheaper for board manufacturers to implement and will allow future-proofing for many years to come.

hehehe....forgive me, but IMHO i dun fink "future-proof" is a term that applies to technology

It might this time. By the time PCI Express gets outdated you'd be many years overdue for an upgrade. Afterall, the PCI bus has lasted 30 years and has not changed much since its inception. With PCI Express and Serial ATA 2.0 you'd be set for many years to come.
