ForceWare 56.55 Windows 2000/XP !

Quite a bit without any new drivers, well a few words on them

Quote:
This is a Windows 2000/XP reference driver set that was found on Gainwards FTP. All NVIDIA graphics cards to date are supported with this new ForceWare/Detonator driver set and this is going to be one popular set to download ! The build date for this NVIDIA Display Driver version is 56.55, 01/29/2004

The driver control panel changed a lot. Performance seems at least slightly higher, and quality seems to be at least slightly higher in some games, along with bug fixes and new interface with new nifty profiles (settings per exe file is really awesome)

What's also quite interesting is that auto overclocking has been added as an option, a dynamic overclock ala ATI's Overdrive.

NVIDIA Display Driver for Windows 2000/XP version 56.55, 01/29/2004

Operating systems supported
---------------------------
Microsoft Windows XP Home
Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Professional
Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

Oh and hey ..also some new graphics card entires can be found in this release:

NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0326.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500"
NVIDIA_NV36.DEV_0343.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE"
NVIDIA_NV36.DEV_0344.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700VE"
Get them at Guru3d

Holy crap! I'll update to these when I'm at home next! The overdrive rip-off sounds very promising!

Hi all. I was checking over at guru3d.com last night for new things and I found these drivers. I downloaded them and installed them and I noticed some immiediate improvements. Another nice thing is the auto overclocking feature, but it must be activated from a videocard driver adjustment program. I am using NVHard page. Also the videocard drivers are WHQL certifed. After I installed them I checked my Direct X panel and it said that the display driver was WHQL certifed. So I would also recommend these drivers.

The one thing ive always envied nvidia users about is the actual drivers supporting overclocking.

but it's not a big deal because on the whole nvidia's drivers are too conservative. if you OC it a bit, it will give you a fail, while the same OC with rivatuner will pass and be stable too. oh well, i guess nvidia wants you to be safe.

These drivers have beta GLSL support. Although it's disabled. It can however be enabled with some registry tweaking.

There are LOTS of new options in these drivers. Time for some experimenting.

The updated quicktweak and per game profiles are damn useful, not to mention the improved custom refresh rate support (now running 1280x960@95Hz)

GLSL = Graphics Library Shader Language. Another name for Open gl 2.0. Enables the use of Dx9 level pixel shaders in OGL.

>> GSDragoon

I took a few shots of some GLSL demos on my tripod member site(bandwidth sucks, but it's free). Pretty sweet. There is also a registry tweak there that will enable GLSL beta support on FX cards with these drivers. My FX5900u@5950 bios 540/1000 is now FULLY GLSL compliant.

Petes OGL 2 plugin GLSL shader effects should also work on FX cards now.

Not likely. YOu'd need a Dx9 compliant card with GLSL compliance.

That's great news for me! I wanted to use the OpenGL 2.0 shaders with my card which didn't work! It's about time they added support.

So, all FX cards should be fully OpenGL 2.0 compliant right? Even the 5200? I suspose if a card can do DX9 Pixelshaders then it can do OpenGL 2.0 Pixelshaders as well.

Even though these release is GF FX oriented I experimented better frame rates/IQ in OpenGL apps as well as in DX ones with my GF4 Ti4600.
The custom settings a la frontend(profiles) for each app is awesome.
Supposedly nvidia will be releasing the 56.56 forceware drivers by March.

The GeForceFX line has full DirectX 9.0 compliance ie. full DX9 Pixel & Vertex Shader support (2.0+ for vertex, 2.0+ for pixel). The GeForceFX line actually has more Pixel shader and Vertex instuctions than the r300. (Radeon 9700 Pro).
