nVidia back on the right way

A member of nVidia posted links to a set of dets supposed to fix the flickering that some users of FX 5900/5900 Ultra cards used to experience, from the current feedback, seems they really managed to

Re: nVidia back on the right way

Nothing different about these dets and the 45.23's except for the flickering and noise fixes. I never had those two problems so, I'm keeping the Omega 45.23's a bit.

Re: nVidia back on the right way

Hmm.. Guess I was wrong. Seems these drivers fixed some fog issues in MOHAA. There are probably other unlisted fixes. Nice.

Re: nVidia back on the right way

These new drivers certainly seem promising, but in terms of performance, well see for yourself:

Quote:
Valve is pissed at all of the benchmarking "optimizations" they've seen in the hardware community;

Half-Life 2 has a special NV3x codepath that was necessary to make NVIDIA's architecture perform reasonably under the game;

Valve recommends running geforce fx 5200 and 5600 cards in dx8 mode in order to get playable frame rates.

even with the special NV3x codepath, ATI is the clear performance leader under Half-Life 2 with the Radeon 9800 Pro hitting around 60 fps at 10x7. The 5900 ultra is noticeably slower with the special codepath and is horrendously slower under the default dx9 codepath;

the Radeon 9600 Pro performs very well - it is a good competitor of the 5900 ultra;

ATI didn't need these special optimizations to perform well and Valve insists that they have not optimized the game specifically for any vendor.

The Nv30 series is "never" going to perform close to an r300 in shader performance.

The only thing Nvidia drivers can do Other than lowering precision (which isnt reallyu neccasary IMO)

Is to shufferl instructions. IE delete un neccasary temp instructions in the registry ect. This can all be done on Driver level. Telling the driver to ignore specific temp instructions.
