Ok, I had some time to update all the pages I could...
http://psxdevru.sf.net (only russian version is updated) http://rbpse.sf.net (news in english!) Here is news digest on what's happening. RomikB, RbPSe author made 0.40 version exactly 1 month ago. He sent me the sources (250+kb of ASM code), win32 binary and instructions on compilation. He said that it's very unstable so I thought it was a bad idea to distribute it... It has new unique plugin system. You can use all the standard plugins, but there's a new modular core standard, which will allow to create own modules to replace specific core parts! There's also CPU (!) plugin which has own settings. He stopped at that point and said that he needs some time to rest, since it was a long and hard way... RomikB optimised all the sources and now they are crossplatform! He already ported emulator to... BeOS! He reports that RbPSe runs many times faster than FPSE. You can see couple of screenshots on the official page. He also develops BeOS plugins. organic, HLPSE author had major computer fault early that year and he spent couple of monthes earning money and buying new PC. After that he wasn't able to go online for some time to cooperate with RomikB (they are cooperating together and writing a lot of docs in russian and sometimes in english). He was writing highly optimised crossplatform GameBoy emulator. Main purpose was to make it run fullspeed on PSX. On the official page you can find sources for Win32 version including 2 executables (old and new versions). PSX version is unavailable since it contains proprietary ROM image in it. I hope he'll introduce a way to insert roms into executable or make loader for it. A bit later he started to cooperate with e}|{ (developer of awesome software GPU plugin which is written mostly in ASM). They added support for most mappers and made couple of versions using different cores - their own, Marat's, GNUBOY's... They made binary release on e}|{'s site (http://ej.psxfanatics.com) for Win32 (which I mirrored at sf.net). He reports that emulator right now is much more advanced than previous release. They are planning to finish GB soon and move back to HLPSE. There was almost no progress with HLPSE, since it's a very complicated job to reverse engineer all the function calls which are left... That's it for now. We've also initiated vote at our forum about the emulator. Since our forum might contain some links which can be treated illegal by local admins, I'm opening a poll here. We want to hear your opinions and not the words "cool" / "uncool". Please post real arguments. The question is: Is it better to make emulator with minimal settings like VGS/Bleem! so anybody could use it or Emulator which everybody could tune the way he wants. Hundreds of options, configurable core for professionals, etc etc. |

Hmm tough vote, I like the simplicity of emulator's for playing games but I also like complex ones with fun unique features.

If it works well I have no problems in configuring it. Btw a frontend will make it easier....

I think that this is the wrong place to ask this question. Most of the people that visit these boards know what their doing with emulators, and love to play around with them. Thus, they would prefer a more costomizable options layout. I know that I would.

But who denys the power of Limited Options, even SONY known the POWERFULL monster inside VGS.
I voted for Simplicity.

Señorita Sombra already said what I would have said. Make an emu w/both simple and complex functions. Or maybe two version of the same emu, one simple and one complex.
The simple one would be for people who are newcomers to the emu scene or who just want to jump in and start playing their favorite games right away. The complex one would be for people (like myself) who like to configure an emu "every which way from Sunday" and try to get the most out of it. This idea and work sounds very promising to me. If it is kept up, we may see another great PSX emu that could join the ranks of ePSXe and PS7. sincerely, sx/amiga |

The best thing IMHO is to have a emulator with minimal settings by default, but with an "Advanced Mode" to allow more experienced users to tweak the emulator at will, much like what Roor and Juan are trying to do with AdriPSX ILE. []s Badaro |

I agree with sxamiga, badaro and senorita.
Introduce both options, that will satisfy both type of users.

I'm following SXAmiga, Señorita sombra, ChaosBlade and Badaro...
I would like this new emu to be as simple as possible for my daughter and childs and also complette (not complex) for experimented users.
