only 8MB (as quite for all the single versions D.D. and me posted) because they contain only the files for that OS version (so they don't work on other OSs, if u want a general DX9 redist, download the not rared one).

Thx, bye
Yeah, saw over lots of sites, and they do only post XP/2K version, I wonder why people think no one else uses w9x/me anymore ^^

I know why it is so small, I was just trying to say I was surprised how this never get bigger in size, like stupid nVIDIA drivers, started whit 4mb downloads, and now they are 4 times bigger ^^

\me too I compared the files sizes, but AFAIK, even on M$' site the DX9 redist is still the 9.0, not the 9.0a. Anyway, I tried to install the (supposed to be) version 9.0a directly from the different OS versions: so I downloaded that for W2k and everytimes I tried to install it, it gave me the error I described before... Can I uninstall DX9.0 or reinstall DX8.0 and then install DX9.0a???

Thx bye

no, I don't make images of my system before upgrading... anyway, this isn't a big upgrade, so I don't care if I can't use DX9.0a, I think I don't need a lot them as I don't use a lot software DX9.0 compliant...

Thx, bye

Yeah as I suspected, the redist DX9.0 file is dated 12/12/02 and its size is 32700KB IIRC. It still isn't the redist DX9.0a in the M$ site.

Ah, but for a short time DX 9.0a was on MS's site. I know because I got it from there and when I run dxdiag, it says version DX 9.0a. Then they took it down and put DX 9.0 back up.
Gismo, if your hardware and drivers are not DX 9.0 complient, then it should not matter what version you are using (DX 8, DX 8.1, or DX 9.0). In my case my hardware (Radeon 9700 pro) and drivers (Cat 3.2) are DX 9 complient so it does matter to me. It might also matter to people who are using the latest Nvidia Detonator drivers, as those are DX 9 complient as well.
Also, at the end of my version it has a 1 instead of the last 0. So I know that it IS DX 9.0a
Lastly, thanks D.D. for the information. I won't bother downloading this new one then.
sincerely,
sx/amiga
